Review of A Dream For Peace
A Dream for Peace is an inspiring autobiography written by Ghoulem Berrah, a notable Algerian freedom fighter, medical doctor, and global diplomat. The book recounts the true-life story of a young Algerian boy whose visionary nature and determined intellect sparked inspiration in him from an early age. Starting from his early education, he rebelled against racism, colonialism, nepotism, and any form of injustice prevailing in the French colony, consistently advocating for the rights of humanity. He organized various activist groups, including the Front de Liberation Nationale (FLN), UGEMA, and others. Throughout his struggle, he went to great lengths, even risking his life, to achieve peace until victory was ultimately secured.
This book offers numerous valuable lessons, and I would first like to commend the author for his unwavering commitment to promoting peace in Africa. The writing style is captivating, effectively holding the reader's attention from beginning to end. The author skillfully presents his perspective, enhancing the reader's understanding through real-world examples and vivid descriptions. I am grateful to the author for opening my eyes to the injustice and immense hardships faced by Africans under colonial rule. Despite enduring countless hardships, he remained motivated to accomplish more.
The author's meticulous attention to detail in recounting every aspect of his life and personal experiences demonstrates his transparency. I also appreciate the unique and engaging aspect of seamlessly incorporating French-language phrases within the narrative and providing brief English interpretations in brackets. Furthermore, the author's portrayal of his deep and admirable love for his wife is truly remarkable.
The only aspect that I did not particularly enjoy about the book was its length. To prevent reader fatigue, I believe condensing the information into three or fewer volumes would have been beneficial. Apart from this, I found no other elements that did not resonate with me.
This book was professionally edited; I found a few errors while reading it, but it didn't stop me from enjoying this enthralling book. Therefore, I wholeheartedly rate this book a perfect 5 out of 5 stars for its intriguing plotline. I highly recommend it to political activists seeking motivation from the author's experiences as well as historians interested in delving deeper into Africa's colonial history.
