Mr. Anders Eklof begins by demonstrating that tribalism and slavery are part of the origins of racism not only in America but around the world. Anti-Black Prejudice in America shows racism through the ages. As the title specifies, this book focuses its development on black victims of racism in America. Before, racists dared to manifest their will and thoughts in public. But now, racism is shown more discretely and is no longer as common as before.
Black people are the ones who suffer the most from racism. But it cannot be eradicated simply by hating those who perpetuate it. After all, love beats hate. The author organizes his ideas under this book, including its title, to avoid creating hate while describing and showing atrocities. That is the first thing I like about this book.
After that, Mr. Anders Eklof reminds us that racism is far from being a thing of the past. He tried to involve all his readers in the noble fight against racism. And finally, he treated the more global subject of discrimination
I think the author caused some minor confusion, and I don’t like it. Tribalism and religion explain the institution of slavery, but certainly not racism. The process of slavery simply explains the presence of black people in America. But, since America constitutes one single state, even if it is a federal one, we can consider the American people as forming one single nation. The word "tribe" doesn’t have a precise definition anymore.
I rate this book 4 out of 5 stars. It is not professionally edited, but that is nothing considering the variety of subjects shown by its content. I recommend it to those who want to understand why racism still exists to this day. Anti-Black Prejudice in America should be restricted to children under 16 years old due to some shocking images.
