Grand Slam Life by Milton Haber, M.D., with Beth Herman is an inspiring memoir. The book tells the story of how Milton Haber became a physician and found the true purpose of life after contracting COVID-19. Haber was thinking about becoming a dentist. This began to change when he took an unexpected trip to Monterrey, Mexico, and fell in love with the school. He desperately wanted to study medicine there, but he was not the catch of the season. Fortunately, life has a strange way of preparing us for what’s to come. Haber was a talented baseball player, and he was accepted into medical school because of this talent. During his internship, he had a life-changing experience. This led to him falling deeply in love with the practice of holistic medicine, where he treats both the illness and the person. Haber goes on to practice medicine in his home town of Laredo, Texas. Where he continues to be a doctor, father, and friend. His patients were happy, but he still wanted to do more. With love and determination, he finally established his research institute in Laredo, Texas, referred to as Laguna Clinical Research Associates. When COVID-19 hit, his research institute was among the few chosen to help execute the Moderna vaccine trials in South Texas. In his pursuit to serve, he contracts COVID 19. The doctor was now the patient. This was when he truly realized the extreme significance of socialization and the simple fact that human beings were made to depend on each other.

This emotional book was simply a joy to read. The words of the book clearly communicate the author’s caring nature and genuine love for his community. A doctor who goes beyond medical needs is a priceless gem. I enjoyed the flow of the text. Every experience ties seamlessly together; this made the book easy to follow. The author’s use of quotes clearly sets the tone for each chapter. I loved the use of images throughout the text. The images used show different stages of the author’s life. This allowed me to connect with his experiences. Stories about COVID-19 are usually sad. I love how the author uses COVID-19 to showcase and encourage love among humans.

There is nothing that I dislike about this book. The novel is a great motivational book. It captured my attention from the very beginning. It is emotional and relevant. It is also short and detailed. This book is the blueprint to make the world a better place. We can achieve so much when we stand together.

I rate this book 5 out of 5.It is well written and professionally edited. The author's writing is absolutely seamless. Every chapter is connected to the next. This is what creates authenticity. Even the pictures included are explained and strategically placed to foster connection.

I recommend this book to anyone who is interested in learning about Moderna and the effects of COVID 19. It would also make a great read for anyone who is struggling to understand their life's purpose. Persons with the urge to invoke positive changes will definitely find this book inspiring. This book would make an excellent read for anyone who is unbothered by minor profanity. After reading this book, I am sure that COVID-19 was not just a pandemic. It was a reminder. Humans were made to love and care for each other. You are indeed your brother’s keeper.
