Review of The Reason Under fire
Countless times, our present civilization has been claimed to have fallen. This view may have been prompted by the decadence reflected in our social, economic, and political aspects of society. The Western civilization, which has been around for five centuries, has been popularly viewed to have caused more harm than good. In The Reason Under Fire by Abdulmouti Souwed, the author expresses his strong opposition and dissent with such views. What inspired this stance? And would you agree with his argument? Grab a copy and find out!
There are quite a number of positive aspects to this book. In the first few pages of this book, the author had clearly stated his stance. He had done this even before his table of contents. This gave me an insight into what I should expect while reading and also built up my curiosity. Quite a good measure of this book was hinged on external materials. This included different books with topics bordering on philosophy, logic, history, and religion. It leaves the impression that the author committed himself to much research and fact-finding. He also referenced the materials well, and it would not be problematic to refer to them for further reading.
The book addressed pertinent philosophical and logical topics. Souwed had started from the basics to define reason, fallacious reasoning, and civilization before gently progressing to the different eras man has witnessed over the centuries. Starting from the Medieval Age down to Industrial Revolution. The peculiarities of the different eras and their influence on our modern-day civilization were also examined.
Unfortunately, there are negative aspects to this book as well. There were so many errors in the book. The punctuation of the sentences was really bad. Multiple sentences are joined together without any full stop or comma. The structure of the book was poorly built. I could not tell quotations from external materials apart from his inner thoughts or writing. Sentences were sometimes left incomplete, and the following line started with a completely different line of thought.
I had a hard time understanding what was being communicated. There is no way this book was professionally edited or revised. I rate it 3 out of 5 stars because of the above negative observations. Thorough editing would give the book a new look and a better rating. I recommend it to people that enjoy reading books about the world's civilization or philosophical books.
