In his beautiful book, A Dream for Peace, Dr. Ghoulem Berrah addresses a variety of issues, including racism, injustice, religious intolerance, corruption, nepotism, a lack of self-sacrifice for the advancement of humanity, world peace, and colonialism in Africa. Berrah, an Algerian national, is devoted to seeing his home nation prosper.

The book is more of an autobiography in that it talks more about Berrah’s life. He actively delivers his homeland from the prejudice oppressed against them by the French colonialists. Despite his father’s passing away while he was young, his mother played a great role in ensuring that his educational background was a success for the country. He is a Muslim and goes on to marry a Christian wife. His relationship with the president of Cote d’Ivoire was of great help in his career. Does his quest for peace in Algeria and other African countries come true? Find out as you delve into this lovely memoir.

One of the strengths of this book is Berrah’s relentless fight for the betterment of his country. Even though he goes through hardships in his plight for peace, it bears fruit for his nation and other African countries as well. Another aspect is that the author’s storytelling is engaging and evocative; it leaves the reader glued to the whole storyline. In addition, the author is honest and provides insights into the history of post-colonialism in Africa.

The negative aspect of the book is that it is long-winded, and the author's meticulous descriptions of the places he visited can be overwhelming at times. This is just a minor aspect and cannot detract from the overall rating of the book. The wide-spanning wisdom of this book is notable.

In consideration of the aspects mentioned above, I would give this book a rating of 5 out of 5 stars. The author is honest with his story and does not technically use difficult terms to express his actions. He uses subject-verb agreement, proper grammar, and other conventions to communicate. In addition, the book is professionally well edited; hence, I would recommend this book to anyone interested in learning more about post-colonial Africa or anyone looking for an inspiring read about the pursuit of peace among all nations and people.
