Review of A Dream For Peace
Dr. Ghoulem Berrah's Dream for Peace is a non-fiction book on the life of Dr. Ghoulem Berrah, a political and human rights activist. It highlights Ghoulem's unwavering battle for peace through combating prejudice, securing justice, and promoting peaceful dialogues. He was born in Algeria during the French colonial era. The first section of the book explains his culture and how the French colony tried to wipe it off. It also discusses his academic path. He was a gifted student since childhood, and he eventually got a scholarship to study overseas. While a student, he continued to struggle for his fellow Africans, especially Algerians, by organizing protests and forming political organizations. His journey was not without difficulties, but he did not give up. His association with Félix Houphout-Boigny, the president of Ivory Coast, provided him with a greater opportunity to advocate for human rights.
This was an outstanding work. Berrah is unquestionably a role model; I admired how devoted he was to his African continent, even sacrificing a lucrative job as a professor in the United States to come and serve it. I also admired how he persevered in the face of adversity and never gave up. He was open-minded, and he did not limit himself to the medical sector, where he worked. Instead, he spent most of his life in politics, pushing for peace and human rights. Religion is often a crucial concern in serious matters such as marriage, and individuals frequently exclude others based on their faith. This, however, was not the case with Berrah. Even though he was a Muslim, he married a Christian woman. He also enjoyed reading the Bible and valued its lessons. He pushed for religious harmony between Christians and Muslims. This work was filled with lessons, some of which were the advantages of determination, loyalty, and being open-minded. The editing was done professionally, and I only found one grammatical error.
However, there were a few aspects of this novel that did not sit well with me. First, I had trouble understanding the Arabic names, especially in the early chapters, though this improved as the novel continued. The use of images was an excellent concept, although several were blurry and I couldn't understand the writing on them. Characters were many, which was to be expected given Berrah's travels around the world and interactions with several individuals.
Though I had a few issues with this task, they were minor. I also only found one grammatical mistake. Because the work had many wonderful aspects, I gave it a perfect rating of 5 out of 5 stars.
Dr. Berrah was a great human rights activist; thus, human rights advocates should read the book because they would learn a lot from Berrah's experience. It also covers African history, especially after the colonial era, and is thus recommended to individuals interested in African history after the colonial period.
