The Warrior’s Meditation by Richard L. Haight is an excellent self-help book to improve one's physical and emotional well-being through meditation. The book focuses on TEM—the Total Embodiment Method. The Warrior's Meditation is the basic TEM through which the practitioners can achieve the state of total awareness instantly, similar to the Samurai warriors, while continuing their daily activities. The author discusses brain waves during meditation, the benefits and methods of meditation, the vagal breathing technique, and various forms of meditation as practised in different cultures and religions. The book features detailed explanations of conscious and unconscious awareness, emotions, flexibility of mind, thoughts on the five senses, spherical awareness, and the guiding philosophy of TEM and its daily applications.

The best thing about this book is the non-religious approach to the subject. Each step of meditation is explained in detail, with various options to choose from according to the flexibility of the body and comfort of the practitioner. A link to the author's video demonstrating vagal breathing is also included, and it is really helpful. The author's deep knowledge of scientific facts backs up every technique described. There are elaborate explanations of the vagus nerve, the workings of the human brain, the workings of the five senses—sight, hearing, smell, and taste— and how the total awareness of these can be mastered. There are different terms like consciousness, mindfulness, hunter-gatherer, transcendental meditation, neuroplasticity, proprioception, and interoception, all explained in very simple words. The difference between dynamic and sedentary meditation, the parasympathetic movements of the body, and natural meditations are fully discussed. A separate chapter on supportive lifestyle adjustments includes sleep-related issues and food intolerance. Other chapters deal with perceptual and emotional biases and dealing with them. This is a very comprehensive book on meditation that discusses the ancient methods as well as the modern methods of meditation, complete with their merits and methods.

There is nothing to dislike about the book. The author has even included links to his website, his videos, and an offer of a 30-day free trial of his online meditation class.

Written by a master of martial arts and a renowned author, this is an amazing book. The editing is good, although a few typing errors have found their way into the book. Overall, I rate it 5 out of 5 stars.

The book is very informative and a good read. I would recommend it to people who want to improve their physical and mental health through meditation and will not hesitate to actually practise it.
