A Dream for Peace is an interesting memoir that covers Algeria's journey from colonialism to independence. The book was written by one of Algeria's freedom fighters, Dr. Ghoulem Berrah, who played a big role in the struggle against colonialism in Algeria. The author narrates his life experiences from his childhood days in his hometown, Aïn Beïda to his old age, having worked as an Ivorian ambassador and special adviser to the president of Côte d’Ivoire, President Houphouèt.

The author grew up in Algeria during French colonialism. Ghoulem is a young, intelligent boy whose good grades make him stand out from every other young child. He studied at the College de Batna, and then he got a scholarship to study medicine in France at the University of Bordeaux. While at the university, Berrah joined a group that stood against discrimination, impartiality, injustice, and colonialism. This almost ruined his life as he got imprisoned, but luckily for him, he was able to escape and eventually move to America to study microbiology. To learn more about Ghoulem Berrah, I would advise you to pick up a copy of the book.

I have read books about many freedom fighters, but I think Ghoulem Berrah was unique and passionate about his struggle for independence because he tended to achieve it through world peace. He believes that peaceful discussion is the best way to achieve peace, stating that "peace starts with everyone of us; it shouldn't be a dream." I enjoyed reading the book because it provided a historical background of Algeria, how things were under French colonial rule, and the impact Berrah made on Algeria's course toward independence. I love the author's courage in the pursuit of his life goals, as he went through several challenges, including racism and oppression, but he didn’t let them weigh him down. The author's achievements are an inspiration to many, as he became an elite figure that a lot of people looked up to.

I didn’t dislike anything in the book other than the fact that it was lengthy, and I’m not really a fan of lengthy books. Notwithstanding the fact that it was lengthy, I enjoyed it because it motivated me to make a positive impact in our society and, to be precise, in my locality. The story about racism and discrimination was also touching and emotional because these things still occur in our society, making it seem like the author's efforts were in vain.

This book deserves a rating of 5 out of 5 stars because of its positive aspects. I found no errors in the book. This shows that it was exceptionally well edited. I suggest the book to fans of memoir and anyone who wants to learn about the life experiences of Ghoulem Berrah because it would be beneficial to them.
