A Dream for Peace by Dr. Ghoulem Berrah is a captivating, poignant, and thought-provoking memoir that narrates the author's remarkable life, from his humble upbringing in Algeria to his unwavering pursuit of independence and lasting peace not only for his country Algeria but also for the broader African continent.

The memoir takes us through Ghoulem Berrah's foundational years as he excels in his studies and earns a scholarship to pursue medicine in France. It is during this time that the seeds of activism are sown as he becomes involved in advocating for the rights of African students and joining forces with like-minded individuals to fight against colonial oppression. He also shares his captivating love story with Antoinette, who becomes his first wife. This personal aspect added depth and emotional layers to the memoir.

I loved the author's emphasis on the power of dialogue and empathy. Through his experiences and encounters, he demonstrates how genuine conversations and empathetic listening can move barriers, heal wounds, and lead to peaceful resolutions. I also loved his storytelling skills which made this memoir relatable, allowing the readers to connect with the characters and their struggles.

Throughout the book, I only found one negative aspect of the book that I did not like. The memoir had many French words, which affected my reading, but I still rated it 5 out of 5 stars because it was exceptionally well-edited.

I would recommend this book to anyone seeking a more profound understanding of peacebuilding, harmony, and the interconnectedness of humanity.
