The Beautiful Business by Steven Morris is a book that provides a unique view of the world of business. By “beautiful,” Morris means “characterized by synergy, order, wholeness, gravity, radiance, harmony and human creation.” Steven Morris is a successful business coach and a fine artist. He is accomplished in both fields and has worked with some of the top companies and artists.

Throughout The Beautiful Business, Morris emphasizes the importance of finding personal meaning and purpose in our careers and offers practical advice and exercises designed to help readers achieve these goals. Using the analogy of artistic expression, Morris presents a new language of entrepreneurship that challenges traditional notions of business success and encourages readers to think outside the box.

In my opinion, The Beautiful Business is a beautifully designed book. It includes stunning, powerful pictures and paintings and lots of quotes, poems, and diagrams that make readers forget they are reading about serious stuff: business. It is interesting that Morris is not profit focused, but is, rather, an author who focuses on building a brand. What you gain from reading The Beautiful Business are methods for becoming a beautiful leader who leads a beautiful business.

Morris highlights his first job working on a paper route, where he learned about providing good customer service to subscribers by arriving early during bad weather to ensure timely delivery. He notes that customers appreciated and looked forward to receiving their newspapers. In addition, the author’s experience dealing with people’s different preferences for reading material shows he understands that meeting individual needs is essential. Overall, Morris’s childhood story suggests he values the impact of providing excellent service to clients or consumers and strives to meet expectations whenever possible.

Though it is a minor fact, I did not like the font variation on the pages. On some pages, half of the text was too small, and half was too big. I found only one grammatical error, so I can confidently say that the book is well edited. So, I am rating The Beautiful Business five out of five stars for joining entrepreneurship with arts.

Anyone looking to build a career or company founded upon their personal beliefs and passions should read this book. Even those without such aspirations can find useful ideas on improving their work through creative self-discovery.
