Review of My Spouse, my friend
My Spouse, My Friend by Ingiete Oyama is a book that can be classified into many different genres. It is a book that Christians, married couples and even single people might enjoy. It teaches about the principles that are found in the Bible concerning marriage relationships. It is a book about a friendship that is supposed to develop between a husband and wife. For example, the book teaches of how only Eve was made from Adam's rib and not many women made from the same rib. The book was well researched and the Bible verses correctly quoted. The parts of the book that I mostly enjoyed were the parts that spoke of the Word of God. In my opinion, the principles discussed in the book had a lot of weight and are a strong foundation to any marriage. The message that the book portrays is a good message that aims to build a better world.
My Spouse, My Friend is a book that highlights the principles that God instilled into His creation regarding marriage and they are backed by Bible verses. It is well written and edited, and it contains no errors.
However, I was disappointed by the lack of discussion about most topics in a way that even a person who is not a Christian can relate. As a married woman I experience firsthand that when it comes to certain issues in a marriage relationship, God has no part in it. For example, sex. Not the discussion of sex but the actual physical parts leading to sex by a husband and wife, and these are deep topics that I would have appreciated to learn more about. For example, since this book is advisory, I would like to see the relationship between a husband and wife, in terms of sex, being appreciated and celebrated because it is a part of marriage. The word of God is spiritual but I am also physical, so I would like to know all there is to know so I can be right with God in all things. I believe the title of the book My Spouse, My Friend gives a false hope because some issues about being a spouse were not completely and openly discussed.
I give this book a rating of 3 out of 5. The book is well written and well edited. It contains no errors or offensive language. I give it this rating because I felt that a big aspect of the book was left out. An aspect that is included in the title of the book.
I recommend that the book be aimed at Christians and young married couples who still have a lot to learn regarding marriage. It can even be used as a tool in marriage counseling.
