Dr. Ghoulem Berrah grew up in Algeria, a country that was colonized and plagued by racism and division. His upbringing by a devoted mother instilled in him the importance of moral values and fighting for one's beliefs. Seeking to further his education, he traveled to France, where he joined a resistance group comprised of Algerians. Their goal was to liberate their country from French rule, and Dr. Berrah played an active role in this movement. Unfortunately, his actions led to his imprisonment, but he was eventually freed when the movement succeeded.

Throughout his life, Dr. Berrah continued to advise and befriend important individuals while also marrying twice before finding his true love on his third attempt. Despite facing challenges and obstacles, he remained dedicated to his Muslim faith and worked towards improving the conditions in his home country. His incredible life journey is chronicled in his memoir, A Dream for Peace, where he shares not only his personal experiences but also the struggles and triumphs of Algeria's fight for independence.

Upon reading this book about the African struggle for independence, I came to realize that although the stories may differ from country to country, the people's determination for autonomy was a constant. The book provided detailed accounts of conversations, actions, and events that took place during the struggle, giving readers a behind-the-scenes look. It was satisfying to see influential figures like Kwame Nkrumah and Jomo Kenyatta mentioned, as it allowed me to gain a deeper understanding of their experiences and characters. Prior to reading this memoir, I had limited knowledge of the history covered, but I was able to learn a great deal about the conflicts, racism, unfairness, and wrongdoing that occurred. While I may not agree with every decision made in the book, I recognize that they were made with good intentions and under difficult circumstances.

Dr. Ghoulem's acknowledgement of the impact of his mother and the support of his wife is evident in the book's dedication and a whole chapter dedicated to her, respectively. Although saddened by his mother's passing, it is believed that she would be proud of his achievements. The author's ability to write this valuable book before his demise is greatly appreciated. It is unimaginable to think that such a significant work could be halted due to his death or completed by another author. The book offers numerous lessons, and the author's dedication to bringing peace to the African continent must be commended. The engaging writing style captures the reader's attention from beginning to end, and the real-world illustrations included in the book help to visualize the author's ideas.

There was nothing I disliked about this book. The book only has two errors, which shows it was professionally edited. Therefore, I would give this book a rating of 5 out of 5 stars. I would recommend this book to every young African reader. This is such an inspiring memoir for them.
