A Dream for Peace by Dr. Ghoulem Berrah is a memoir of the author. This insightful and motivational book is centered on the author’s life struggles and experiences toward the independence of his country, Algeria. He also made a mark in Morocco, Cote d’Ivoire, and the world of science.

Dr. Ghoulem Berrah was born to poor parents, Hamadi Berrah and Lalla Zebida, in Ain Beida, a small town in the province of Constantine. Having lost her husband and her other children, Lalla was determined to ensure her son was raised well. At a young age, Ghoulem started witnessing his people’s maltreatment by the French colonists, which sparked his quest for the independence of his home country, Algeria. He fought for what was right using his voice, and despite having the police on his heels and other hurdles in the fight for his country, Ghoulem refused to give up. He completed his primary and secondary education in Algeria, and due to his brilliance, he was given a scholarship to study medicine abroad. The choice, of course, to study was made after his mother died due to an illness. While in school abroad, he led protests against colonization. To find out more about Dr. Ghoulem Berrah, read this book.

There were so many positive aspects of this book. I liked that the author described every detail about his life’s journey, from politics to family to religion to personal goals, and all the challenges he had to conquer at different points in each aspect. He also added pictures of most people he had come across and beautiful pictures of his lovely wife, Titi. All of this made the book feel so intimate and real. The author gave us a little insight into Algerian culture and lifestyle. The author's religious beliefs are admirable and worthy of emulation. He set an example against religious discrimination by marrying a Christian woman as a Muslim. He also taught his readers that it's possible to attain any height in politics without being morally corrupt.

A Dream for Peace: An Ambassador’s Memoir gives a lot of historical information on different parts of the world. As I discovered while reading, the author went around the world about 40 times. It is also safe to add that the author didn’t only fight for peace in his country but for the world at large. This book is filled with very impactful themes, and the theme that stood out for me was perseverance and resiliency. There was nothing to dislike about this 644-page book, and despite its length, it was worth the time spent reading. The book was exceptionally well edited, and I found no errors while reading. I'll like to rate this book 5 out of 5 stars.

In conclusion, the moral lessons to be learned and the motivation to be derived from this book can’t be overemphasized. It's indeed a must-read for everyone, but to be more specific, I’ll recommend this book to both young and old readers who would love to know more about historical fiction.
