After reading his book Dream for Peace: A Memoir, I am convinced that Ghoulem Berrah is one of Africa's most excellent peace ambassadors and champions for human rights. Apart from Algeria, he was also devoted to serving Africa as a whole continent. Due to his love for Africa, he consented to President Houphouët-Boigny’s request to come and serve Africa. This made him quit his lauraceous job at Yale University to respond to the call of Africa. He was a great peace ambassador; for example, he helped bring together Houphouët-Boigny, the president of Ivory Coast, and Boumédiène, the president of Algeria, despite their differences. This, in turn, helped in uniting the two nations. Despite many obstacles, he organized dialogues to help unite Israel and Palestine, two nations whose conflict is well-known in world history. He became the greatest friend to the president of Ivory Coast, who always consulted him regarding various matters. He also took the initiative to fight conflicts based on religious grounds.

This was a truly outstanding effort. This book gave me a lot of exposure; I have known France to be one of the greatest champions against racism. Little did I know that they were also the greatest perpetrators of this act. I was touched by how it undermined Algerians, especially in that eight votes by an Algerian were equivalent to one vote by a French citizen. Another positive thing about this book was the chronological flow of the story. There was a smooth transition from one chapter to the next and a smooth flow throughout the book. I picked a lot of lessons from the novel. To single out one, I learned that empathizing with someone for their misfortunes is not always enough. Instead, we should focus on finding solutions. It is also encouraging that Berrah faced many challenges, but this did not stop him from fighting for human rights, and this encouraged me as I endeavour to achieve my goals.

There were only a few elements I didn't like about this novel. Even though Berrah included photographs to support his writings, which was an excellent idea, some photographs, particularly those on official documents, needed to be clearer. Another problem was that there were a lot of characters, which slowed my reading because I had to spend time getting to know them all.

I had two issues with the work that had little no on my rating. I only noticed one mistake in the book, which had been professionally edited. As a result, I give it 5 out of 5 stars.

If you intend to advocate for human rights and negotiate for peace, please read this book because you will gain valuable insights from Berrah's experiences.
