A Dream For Peace is the true life story of Dr. Ghoulem Berrah, a diplomat and a medical doctor. This book details his wins, losses, and struggles as he strives to bring independence and peace to the African continent. The story in this book starts as the author travels to study medicine in France. While in France, he started developing leadership acumen by serving in many student organizations. His passion for the emancipation of the African continent from the hands of the colonial masters made him a target in France. Upon leaving France, he went to practice medicine in Algeria briefly before moving to the Ivory Coast, at the president's request, to assist in peacebuilding. If you want to know about Dr. Berrah's many diplomatic missions while working with President Houphouët-Boigny of the Ivory Coast, read the rest of this book.

One thing I learned in this book is the importance of passion and love for peacebuilding, which the author showed in his life. I commend Dr. Berrah's values that prompted him to resign from his appointment at a prominent university in America and decide to take up a role in his continent that would allow him to contribute to peacebuilding. Also, despite the challenges that Dr. Berrah met while trying to get married, he didn't give up until Titi became his wife.

I love the level of neutrality the author displayed while doing his job as a diplomat and attending to religious affairs. He attended to the needs of the major religious bodies in the Ivory Coast by building a cathedral for Christians and a mosque for the Muslim faithful. His marriage also further solidifies my point about his neutrality. Though a memoir, this book opened my eyes to colonialism and its effects, especially in Africa.

If there is anything to dislike in this book, it is the many characters and places mentioned in it; I didn't bother to memorize most of them.

Although this book is a bit voluminous (it has 644 pages), the author made sure it was not boring by writing with easy-to-understand sentences for easy comprehension. The editors of this book were exceptional since I didn't encounter any errors while reading through. Putting the aforementioned points into consideration, I am giving this book a five out of five stars rating.

I am recommending this book to diplomats, peace lovers, and student leaders who want to learn a peaceful way to bring about positive change. The central message of this book is peacebuilding, and the author tried to develop all the chapters to preach about using dialogue to bring peace.

Dr. Ghoulem Berrah's braveness is worth commendable. His character demonstrated humanity. His love for his people made him seek ways to liberate them from the hands of the French colonists. He was also able to bring peace to some other nations experiencing violence. Thanks for sharing.
