Review of The Beautiful Business
The Beautiful Business: An Actionable Manifesto to Create an Unignorable Business with Love at the Core by Steven Morris, is one of the very few books that dive into what businesses should be about. The author stresses that, besides making profits, businesses stand to serve as a cultural outlet for specific audiences that share beliefs. And only businesses whose activities are tethered to a meaningful purpose in line with that of their customers do well.
As I read the book, it was clear what makes some businesses succeed where others fail. Also, some brands have a phenomenal feel to them while others fail to leave memorable impressions. That beauty in business is not about its premises design, marketing strategies, or massive profit margins.
The beauty of a business is seen in how businesses treat their teams. It’s about serving with genuine care. Beauty in business is more about making and keeping promises to the consumers and delivering value with meaningful innovations that improve the lives of the people. The author includes a comprehensive guide for business leaders to follow towards transforming their ventures into beautiful enterprises. Following this path will help their businesses stand the test of time. Steven Morris also suggests that a beautiful business begins with increased self-awareness for business leaders.
As a business owner, I appreciate how the writings in this book have helped me define the purpose of my business. As I read along, I was also able to identify the loopholes in my business operations, and the suggestions made in this book will help me make substantive changes to my business. The definitions of purpose, goals, and vision were easy to understand. I liked the realistic nature of the suggestions in this book. I enjoyed the stories too. Steven Morris also included the titles of important publications in the business world that can serve as further references for business leaders who wish to transform their businesses. I also liked that the author suggested other ways of measuring the success of businesses besides how much profit they make. The idea that businesses should reconsider their hiring process and hire teams that have a deep connection to the business purpose was a bold suggestion that I found worthwhile.
What I did not find meaningful were the picture illustrations in the book. They did not help me understand the content of the book. Although I liked that the author kept reminding the reader of important concepts in the book, I found the repetition tedious, and I think that a different choice of words in the emphatic statements might have helped.
I did not find any spelling errors in the book, and I can say that it was well-edited. I rate The Beautiful Business: An Actionable Manifesto to Create an Unignorable Business with Love at the Core, four out of five stars because it was well-written and easy to understand. It's losing a star because of the images I thought were distracting.
The Beautiful Business: An Actionable Manifesto to Create an Unignorable Business with Love at the Core, is an educative and potentially transforming publication in the world of business. I, therefore, recommend it to every business leader in the world.
