Review of A Dream For Peace
A Dream for Peace by Ghoulem Berrah is an account of one of the famous freedom fighters who fought for the independence of his country, Algeria. This autobiography tells the story of his life, from childhood to old age, as well as the sacrifices he made in order to accomplish his goals.
The famous Dr. Ghoulem Berrah was born in the small town of Aïn Beïda, in Algeria, during French colonial rule. Berrah lost his father, Hamedi Berrah, at a young age. Hamedi was a hunter who was frequently spotted with his rifle. Berrah attended college in France before receiving a scholarship to study medicine at the University of Bordeaux. Berrah formed an organization in the university with a group of friends that aim to work towards the independence of Algeria as they kick against colonialism. However, this got him into trouble, and he was imprisoned for a while. With the help of his friends, he later got out and relocated to America, where he became a scientist. Things began to turn out well for Berrah as he became a professor at Yale University. Berrah also worked with the president of Cote d’Ivoire. Read the book to be inspired by Ghoulem Berrah.
There are many positive aspects to this book, and I will appreciate the author for his commitments and involvement in the course of Algeria's independence. I really liked how the author presented comprehensive descriptions of the events that took place throughout his life's journey. I also like how the book was written chronologically. The author's story inspired me, as he was a man of peace and promoted peace among nations and people of different denominations. He set an example by marrying a Catholic, notwithstanding the fact that he is a Muslim and they have different religious views. I love Berrah’s approach to life because he opposed racism and discrimination. I learned about Algeria and its history, as well as the culture of the Algerian people.
There was nothing I disliked about the book. It was well detailed, and the author's use of concise words made it a great reading experience because I found it easy to comprehend the book. The book was lengthy, but I didn’t get bored because every detail in the book was relevant. I also commend the author for making mention of other notable personalities, like Kwame Nkrumah. They are African heroes who made great impacts for their country.
I rate the book five out of five stars. I gave it a perfect rating because of the writing style and other things I liked about the book, which I stated above. There are no errors in the book because it was exceptionally well edited. I recommend the book to lovers of historical autobiographies and those interested in African history because they would enjoy Ghoulem Berrah’s autobiography.
