Review of A Dream For Peace
Dr. Ghoulem Berrah's memoir, A Dream for Peace, tells the story of the author's life and the challenges he surmounted to bring about peace. Dr. Ghoulem Berrah was born in Algeria's eastern area. He came from a household that values education highly. Although his mother only desired the best for him, he found growing up to be challenging. He was a bright student who consistently got good grades. This brightness earned him a scholarship to study in France. Dr. Ghoulem desired the best for himself. He did this despite the fact that some of his relatives had always wanted him to be a teacher. Despite majoring in medicine, he became interested in politics due to the challenges that many international students encountered while learning abroad. Dr. Ghoulem started his crusade for peace in an effort to create a better world. To follow the author's quest for peace, pick up a copy of this novel.
This work has many positive aspects. Being an African, I connected with the author on a personal level. He always made the right choice despite all the prejudice and obstacles. Nowadays, children in many African homes are readily persuaded to make choices that are not right for them. Though Dr. Ghoulem was raised in a challenging environment, he was always clear on his goals. I like the way he handled challenges such as his unsuccessful marriage, discrimination, and the difficulties of prison life. This book delivered a particular lesson to me. It taught me that it is always a good idea to work toward what is moral and what will benefit a larger number of people.
I had to keep reminding myself that I was reading his memoir and not a fictional work while reading the book. Being taken behind the scenes and hearing a first-person account of the interactions between the influential political leaders of various nations was intriguing. The author also provides an inside glimpse at the influence that religion has on nations' futures. He started a scheme to construct a mosque and a church side by side in the Ivory Coast with a Christian Archbishop. This served to represent their commitment to religious tolerance.
One of the many reflections this story examined was what constitutes true happiness. Dr. Berrah talked about the mindset that now equates happiness with monetary achievement. He considered it in the context of spirituality and how people's pursuit of goals has replaced sincere spiritual connection in the world. The author asserted that although wealth is acquired through toil, it does not define who we are. This statement supported the notion that a people's identity was more than just their wealth and could be discovered in their culture, values, and personality.
I give this book a rating of 5 out of 5 stars. I did not encounter errors while reading this book. Hence, it was professionally well-edited. I recommend this book to readers who enjoy reading books about politics and history. This book should also be read by aspiring diplomats, revolutionaries, and readers who enjoy memoirs.
