Review of A Dream For Peace
Have you read about how Algeria gained its independence and the great people of Algeria who were the faces behind the independence of Algeria? In this book, we get to read about one of them. A Dream For Peace is a book written by the famous Dr. Ghoulem Berrah. In this autobiography, the author narrates his life experiences, right from childhood to old age, and his involvement in the independence of Algeria.
Berrah was from a Muslim family in Aïn Beïda, a small town in Algeria under French colonial rule. Berrah’s father, Hamadi Berrah, loved hunting, and most times he was seen carrying his rifle around. Berrah left Algeria and moved to France to continue his education. He attended his college in France and later moved to the University of Bordeaux to study medicine after he was awarded a scholarship. A lot happened as he stood against racism and discrimination. Berrah was imprisoned, but this wasn’t the end of him. He moved to America after getting out of prison and started a career as a scientist. Berrah lived a simple life, and he was loved by the people. He got married to a Catholic, and he preached peace among people regardless of their religion or race. Get a copy of the book to read up on Ghoulem Berrah’s autobiography.
The book has a lot of positive aspects. It is a book that promotes peace and unity among nations. I enjoyed reading the book as I learned a lot of things about which I was ignorant. I never knew Algeria was colonized by France. I love the narrative technique used by the author. I love the author's marriage to his Catholic wife and the efforts he made in the construction of a new cathedral in Abidjan. I’m glad the author worked with great people, the likes of President Houphouët-Boigny, who was Côte d'Ivoire's former president. Berrah’s memoir is an inspiration to me. He made a statement that I will always live by: "Peace starts with everyone of us; it shouldn't be a dream." I would love to live an exemplary life like Berrah.
I found nothing wrong with the book. Aside from the fact that the book was voluminous, it was also a bit boring, but I expected it because it’s a memoir. I also wasn’t happy that Dr. Berrah suffered a lot during Algeria's independence. This nearly took his life as he went to prison and traveled through unreal paths just to get to Cote d’Ivoire. I also resent the fact that, despite Berrah's efforts, racism and discrimination are still pervasive in the world. Lastly, the author conveyed his message with concise words, which made the book easy to comprehend, and for this purpose, I rate the book 5 out of 5 stars.
The book was free of all forms of error because it was exceptionally well edited. I recommend the book to those who would love to read about colonialism and independence because they would benefit a lot from the book.
