Review of The Fight for Sleep
The book is made up of an introduction. The introduction consists of information on how to read the book, how the book is organized, and a figure depicting the overview of the book. Thereafter the information is split into 7 sections. Each section is a summary of the contents of the book. There are 11 chapters. Each chapter is made up of a map and information explaining what is depicted on the map. At the end of the book is background information about the book; acknowledgments; extra information about sleep-related conditions, relaxation techniques, recommended books on insomnia and habits; additional references and links, and lastly, a disclaimer from the author.
I liked that the author made use of maps in each chapter. This gives the reader an idea of what the chapter will be about. The author gave in-depth explanations of each map. This made it easier for me to understand the maps. I liked that the author made use of research and statistics. This makes the information in the book more credible. Besides the maps, the author made use of figures throughout the book. This made the book more interesting. I liked that the author stayed on the topic of insomnia and gave advice to the best of his ability. The author also explains to people what insomnia is at the beginning of the book so that we can understand what the author is writing about.
I disliked that the author made a disclaimer at the end of the book. In the disclaimer, the author is taking no responsibility for what he has written. This shows me that the author lacks confidence in what he has written. The font that was used is too small in my opinion because it is difficult for me to read the book.
I rate the book The Fight for Sleep by Thad R Harshbarger 4 out of 5 stars because there were more positive aspects than negative aspects and the book was excellently edited. The reason that I did not give the book 5 stars is because of the disclaimer that the author made at the end of the book. The author takes no responsibility for what he has written. That shows me that the author lacks confidence in what he has written and that is very off-putting.
I recommend this book to people who are living with insomnia and to people who are living with someone that has insomnia. The book gives an in depth explanation of what insomnia really is and how to set rules in place to make living with it easier. It also gives someone with no knowledge of insomnia, knowledge about insomnia.
