Memoirs are a great way to keep account of one's life, and Dr. Ghoulem Berrah sure does know how to write one. A Dream For Peace gives a full account of the author's life: his birth in Algeria, the fight for the country's independence, his academic success across different fields of study, and marital affairs spread across three relationships. He traveled around the world and crossed paths with a lot of notable people across history, one of whom was Pope John Paul II.

Born into a polygamous home, the author gave accounts of his childhood and his bond with his mother. He would go on to study medicine at Bordeaux in France. While in college, the author would experience some sort of racism and discrimination towards foreign students, and that would ignite his drive for activism. Dr. Ghoulem Berrah would achieve so many feats later in his life. As a microbiologist, he came up with a hypothesis, one that would prove pivotal to a discovery about an enzyme. He was a mediator for the Israel-Palestine conflict, and he also served as the special advisor to President Houphouët Boigny of Côte d'Ivoire. Dr. Ghoulem Berrah lived a well-fulfilled life, one I'm sure he's grateful for, and though I never knew him, this book has brought me closer to him, his life, and his works. May his soul rest in peace.

I'm a big fan of history, and this book showed no mercy in teaching me about it. The author was able to enlighten his readers on the colonial era of Algeria, the Cold War, the Biafran War, and the Israel-Palestine conflict. I found all these topics fascinating and delightful. I also liked the fact that the author included photos in this book; it saved my mind all the imagination, and I was able to relate properly to the book.

I did not find anything to dislike about this book, and although there were a few French lingos that I was not able to grasp, I was able to use the internet to help me understand them. I believe that we learn something new every day, and this book was a learning process for me, not only because of the history but for French as well; I'm now able to say a few words in the language.

I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars. I found no errors in this book; it was flawlessly edited. I recommend this book for people who love history. I also recommend this book for people who love reading memoirs; it would be a great read for them.
