A Dream for Peace by Dr. Ghoulem Berrah is a book about an Algerian boy who dreams of setting his people free from colonialism. The book is the true life story of Dr. Berrah, who was born in the period when his people were under the French colonists and faced persecution and hardships that were a nightmare that he wanted to end as fast as possible right from his childhood experience. In those days, colonialism was rampant in Africa, and human rights were not as prevalent as they are today in the world. As a child, he had no power to change what was going on in his home town, but he had this burning desire to set his people free.

This book narrates the life journey of Dr. Berrah, who was lucky to secure a scholarship to study medicine in France, which led him to meet other students from Africa too who had similar experiences and passions for freedom from colonial rule. The students formed pressure groups that planned to come together in the diaspora and do what they could to push the agenda against colonial rule that their people back home experienced. He was totally against the discrimination and racism he and his Muslim brothers faced. This motive was not accepted or tolerated easily, and he had to go through so many thick and thins, but as destiny would have it, he never gave up even when he faced so many challenges and difficulties that nearly cost him his life and half-baked freedom. I believe he was a born leader, and through his actions and works, he was able to make a difference, and his impact was felt in his country and many more African countries.

The thing that fascinated me about Dr. Berrah was the fact that he was originally a science student who developed a flare for politics, lost his father at an early age, was raised by a single mother, and is from a very humble background. He had a dream just like Martin Luther and never gave up until his voice was heard and recognized. He was a Muslim but never had anything against other religions; he even married a Christian woman and had Jewish friends. He is the definition of a true hero; he was already on a pathway to success and still tried his best to push for freedom and end colonialism.

The book was very long but well edited and organized; I found few errors. The book contained no profanity, and it was not focused on religion.

I rate this book five out of five stars. I recommend this book for lovers of history and freedom. The book is suitable for all ages, and the grammar is easy and straightforward.
