Review of The Inner CEO
A business's success isn’t only based on customer satisfaction but also on a cohesive team of employees. The inner CEO: Unleashing leaders at all levels happens to be a wakeup call for businesses striving to change with the times. According to the author, Jeremy Blain, it is vital that we adapt and reinvent ourselves to survive and prosper because past commercial success does not ensure future success. This book is a form of guidance given to enable CEOs at all levels to step up, or for organizations to recognize them and give them a chance to step up. Doing away with the traditional hierarchical way of leading and involving employees at operational levels to be strategic regardless of their job description The author talks of the four Es that empower leadership, which are envision, engage, execute, and excel. Some people are always unconsciously inner CEOs; they distinguish themselves through their attitude, organizational culture alignment, interpersonal skills, and performance.
Leaders have participated in the creation of this book, giving their insight through interviews conducted by Jeremy. This happens after every chapter. The interviews are used to give a glimpse of what might be achieved by implementing these structures. They are also to be used by companies to assess their development to enable success at all levels. I found this to be interesting and loved it. Getting different perspectives from people who have gotten results from implementing these methods and how it worked for them. Most of the interviewees were from well-known companies, such as Spotify, which was intriguing. Their perspectives show the importance of implementing this method early on.
The author is also passionate about this topic. This made the book captivating due to how involved and willing he was to help. He shares the knowledge he has acquired, even going to the extent of including exercises that companies may follow. There is a 90-day road map, templates, and self-development mosaic to act as a guide to set the project in motion for organizations.
The only thing I found off-putting was the fact that at first it was mainly focused on how companies needed to advance and accept the technological aspects. It was as if the book were more about how to prevent a company from dissolving than the concept of unleashing CEOs at all levels.
The book was exceptionally well edited. I would rate this book 3 out of 4 stars because I found its context to be helpful and educational. This means I learned a lot from it after going through the last few chapters or so when he wrote about unleashing leaders at all levels. This changed my first impression of it; therefore, I would rate it 4 out of 5 stars.
I would recommend this to people who are willing to learn and are open-minded. I would also recommend it to CEOs who might want a turnaround in their organization.
