There's a Rooster in My Bathroom
by Trish Ostroski

Cracking open There's a Rooster in My Bathroom by Trish Ostroski is such an experience. Ostroski uses her life story and experiences to give advice. Ranging from be a kind Santa to creating goals and expecting the unexpected. We get to follow Ostroski as she travels to Moldova, Africa, and spends some time in Ohio and L.A. The timeline spans several interesting years with huge world events going on as well such as the Earthquake in 1994, and 9/11. Ostroski takes these times and shows you the lesson in it. She lived it and has decided you don't need to for the life lesson to resonate with you.

This book had so many positive aspects, and it is because Ostroski focused on the positive. Her growth mindset and proactive language got her to where she is in life, and she is very clearly proud of it. This also translates to the upbeat, cheer in the text. A lot of negatives happen and life and often in biographies there is despair around what happened growing up, and all the things that went wrong. The tone of this book isn't that the tone is what can you learn? How can you grow? Ostroski is very clearly thankful for the life she was given and in a way the book challenges you to do the same and make life worth living.

There is some parts of the book that seem very wonky. Ostroski included the full song lyrics to a song she loved and saw as poetry and also included a brief play that she wrote, in addition to several pictures of trips she made and people she was with. The long lyrics were interesting, but Ostroski had already taken a deep dive into what it did for her and why it was meaningful. I was surprised to see the whole song lyrics show up. I think if readers are interested, they would look it up. However, I also think that this is directed towards the baby boomer generation, because it would be Ostroski's peers. My opinion stands with the play, if I was really interested, I would look it up. Lastly, the picture, the format should take up the whole page or have multiple on a page, it appears sparse.

This book did not seem like it was professionally edited. More than anything the format immediately jumps out at me. There are full blank lines between paragraphs which could just be a preference, but at some point, you are reading a page and then the paragraph ends with 1 word on the next page. Besides that, I would say I found about 9 errors in addition to spacing issues. They are quick fixes and I just find it hard to believe no one has noticed them. Especially if it was edited professionally. However, Ostroski did disclose this book was written at a weekend conference. If I binge-wrote a book in 4 days I can't imagine the number of errors you would find in my text.

I highly recommend this book. This book is rated 4 out of 5. The title and cover of the book are absolutely eye-catching. Immediately I am wondering how this book ended up here. As I open it I am super interested to see where could it possibly go. It took me a minute to be fully engaged with Ostroski and the messages she was giving but I quickly came to love the format of the book. Each chapter has a bit of her life story, and each chapter is summarized with a quote and these are quotes resonate with me so strongly, I couldn't wait to drop the dime of knowledge on someone else. I also took the time to write some down to keep with me as I move thru life.
