Dr. Ghoulem Berrah was an Algerian freedom fighter who was born in a small town in Algeria during the time when the country was still under the control of France. From a young age, he witnessed and experienced firsthand the oppression of his people, which fueled his desire to fight against discrimination. He refused to allow himself to be a victim of this injustice and actively worked towards change, even forming revolutionary groups during his time in school in France. Despite facing challenges and obstacles, Berrah remained committed to his belief in equality and never wavered in his efforts. This memoir, Dream For Peace tells the story of his life and activism.

This book was very enjoyable to read due to the author's excellent presentation of their life story. The level of organization and clarity in the writing was impressive and exceeded my expectations. One aspect of the book that particularly stood out to me was the detailed depiction of Algeria under colonial rule. This provided valuable insight into the negative impacts of colonialism, which is a global issue that is widely condemned. Additionally, I was touched by the deep love that the author had for their wife, Titi, despite facing challenges and opposition from their families due to their different religious backgrounds. Overall, this book was a captivating and informative read.

Dr. Ghoulem is an admirable figure for his efforts in peacefully decolonizing Algeria. He not only made significant contributions to his own country but also had a global impact with his proposal of a theory about the reverse transcriptase enzyme. In addition to his political and medical genius, Ghoulem also demonstrated exceptional leadership skills, playing a crucial role in resolving conflicts between Israel and Palestine. He can be compared to other notable leaders such as Nelson Mandela, Mao Zedong, John F. Kennedy, Martin Luther King, Jr., and more. It is likely that, if he were the president of the writer's country, Nigeria, Ghoulem would work towards addressing issues such as corruption, inequality, and nepotism.

Ghoulem's story in the book really caught my attention because it was so different from anything I had experienced. He talked about a time when he ignored his mother's caution and ended up getting injured while riding his bike to university. But the thing that really blew me away was that his mother, who was at home at the time, seemed to have a sense of what had happened and how badly he was hurt. This struck me as a powerful example of the special bond between a mother and her child and the deep emotional connection that can exist between them. As a reader, I was really moved by this account.

There was nothing I disliked about the book. I only found two errors. That shows that the book was professionally edited. Therefore, I would rate this book 5 out of 5 stars. I would recommend this book to all young African readers out there.
