Review of A Dream For Peace
Dr. Ghoulem Berrah, an Algerian ambassador and microbiologist, hails from Aïn Beïda in Algeria in Algeria. He grew up just like any other kid in an African community, and he experienced the normal religious upbringing and elementary schooling given to him by his middle-class parents.
His course of life changed from the life of the everyday people that surrounded him as he grew up into adulthood and separated himself from the human conventional lifestyle characterized by the pursuit of wealth, racial and religious discrimination, and abuse of political power. He chose a life of self-discipline and sacrifice to leave a positive influence on every area of life in which he finds himself, correcting the wrongs and creating ground-breaking innovations that will likewise make the world a better place. This is evident in his achievements in various areas of human endeavors, such as medicine and health, politics, religion, and international relations.
A Dream for Peace: A Memoir by Dr. Ghoulem Berrah is an autobiographical account of the author covering his early life as a child through to the different facets of life he has been through and counting on the many benefits he has brought to Africa in terms of quality of peace and relevance to the continents of the world.
I love the writing tone used in the book. The tone makes the book relatable to the reader; this, coupled with the easy-to-understand sentence structure, allows for an enjoyable reading experience. From the start of the book, the author succeeded in gaining my trust, as he included some appreciation and remarks from his friends, such as H. E. Monsignor Justo Mullor García. The remarks testify to the seemingly unbelievable attributes of the author as a distinct man in terms of his life choices that uphold peace and justice both at home and abroad. I was awestruck by some of the author's initiatives and achievements. For example, I was surprised by his ideology and the ability to help raise funds to build a church and a mosque close to each other, and there is no interference with each other; this ideology is like no other towards the highest peace movement I have ever known existed.
Another instance where he shows his attribute of religious tolerance is how he beats all odds to marry Titi, who is from a Christian home, while he comes from an Islamic family background. I am aware of the large disparity between these two religions anywhere in the world, especially in Africa, where most people base their life choices on religious factors. Another big and ground-breaking achievement to his name is being the first scientist to carry out a hypothesis into what was later discovered in 1970 as the Reverse Transcriptase Enzyme by Howard Temin and David Baltimore. There are lots of his achievements that you will unravel as you read the book.
I have nothing to dislike in the book. It is written clearly, and it is exceptionally well-edited, as I didn't come across a grammar error in it. So, I'll rate the book 5 out of 5 stars. To lovers of autobiographies of icons or just memoirs in general, I recommend the book.
