Review of Phobia Relief
The book Phobia Relief: From Fear to Freedom by Kalliope Barlis is a superb and well-written book that discusses how to conquer one's fear and offers comprehensive instructions through the use of Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) methods to get rid of unreasonable fears and phobias. The goal of the book is to provide the reader with the best interest to reduce their fear so they have more freedom to lead the life they want and to live it to the fullest and with meaning. Two sections make up the entire book. The first section emphasizes reducing one's fear and discovering a purpose while the second part offers tactical tools and solution kits on how to transit from fear to freedom. The book made a point of highlighting how thinking about the terrible thing is rote behaviour that is unproductive because the answers to the questions of who, what, where, when, and why serve to reinforce the negative memory or the fear inside the brain's neural pathways.
In this book, a few things stood out for me. First, I was captivated by the logical presentation, justification, and application of the idea. I appreciate the way it deals with irrational fears and phobias that keep people from doing things they might otherwise find delightful. Second, rather than offering therapy, the author instead offers training with entirely liberating results. Thirdly, I appreciate how each chapter is concise while still providing the reader with a wealth of information that may enable them to view things from other angles and discover workable solutions to their problems without fear. This book offers a series of abilities that lead to a predetermined outcome.
However, the last chapter only contains the experience of just one client. If a variety of experiences are illustrated in the chapter, a diverse audience may be more likely to be intrigued. Also, I understand the need for more details in the client chapter, but it is too long and readers can be bored at some point and this could make readers skip this important chapter. Further, the pdf file I received is also not organized correctly. It would be easier to read if it organized one page at a time rather than two pages divided into sections.
The central focus of this book is overcoming fear and living a life of freedom and in doing this, the book offers a practical solution. So, I recommend this book to everyone that is finding it hard to overcome a particular fear.
The book is well written and thought-provoking, although no book is error-free as I found a few errors and grammatical mistakes, this did not hinder me from rating the book well. Therefore, I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars.
