Review of Phobia Relief
Phobia Relief: From Fear to Freedom can be described as a step-by-step manual on how to elevate debilitating fear and initiate real change in one’s life through the control of thoughts. It is therapy but in the form of a book, and it helps the reader start their journey toward a life without phobias. The book offers an interesting ideology, which is that the problems we encounter are often self-inflicted and that only we have the power to overcome them.
I loved reading this book. I am particularly inclined toward books of the self-help genre, and this book did not disappoint. I personally have a phobia of spiders that is debilitating, and this book helped me understand why I have it and how to overcome it. Phobia Relief: From Fear to Freedom offered insight into what fear is and how it is formed in the mind. I thought it was interesting to note that fear is built and nurtured in the mind, and constant negative thoughts help to feed it. Kalliope Barlis goes beyond simply explaining what fear is and aims to help the reader control their thoughts, which eventually helps the reader live their lives free of irrational fear. I think Kalliope Barlis defines fear and the methods needed to control it beautifully and in a way that is easy for anyone to understand.
The steps and physical exercises are backed by science and are easy to execute. The physical exercises helped me stay engaged with the goal of ridding myself of my phobia. I admire the overall message of this book, which is that our greatest fears are often our own manifestations, which we have allowed to grow and that only we can change. It gives the reader hope that we have control in times when we think we do not. The book empowered me to consider how I think about the world and how taking control of my thoughts can initiate real change in my life. I can also appreciate that the book features real-life scenarios from actual clients who suffered from phobias. I think this offers an interesting perspective, and I was able to relate to some of the situations that Kalliope Barlis’ clients found themselves in.
I don’t have anything negative to say about this book, but I will say that anyone who considers reading it should be aware that this book is not a quick fix, and it may or may not work for everyone who has a debilitating phobia.
The steps and exercises in the book are explained in depth, and there is bound to be something helpful for everyone who suffers from phobias. Therefore, I would recommend this book to anyone who suffers from phobias. I cannot guarantee that it will change your life immediately, but for me, it was the first step in the right direction. I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars because I think it was well written and filled with easy-to-understand and helpful methods that are bound to help people who suffer from phobias or, at the very least, offer an interesting and immersive reading experience.
