Review of A Dream For Peace
Dr. Ghoulem Berrah's upbringing in Algeria was marked by the strife and segregation caused by colonization. From a young age, he was instilled with a strong moral compass by his devoted mother. As he pursued higher education in France, he became involved in a movement to liberate Algeria from its colonial oppressors. Despite facing imprisonment for his activism, Berrah persevered and eventually saw his homeland gain independence. Throughout his life, he worked to better the conditions in Algeria, remaining faithful to his Muslim faith and finding love on his third marriage. His memoir, A Dream For Peace: An Ambassador's Memoir, delves into these experiences and more.
Dr. Berrah's background involves a silversmith father and a supportive mother, both of whom played a significant role in his upbringing. Despite facing numerous challenges, he managed to embark on a successful and transformative educational journey. As a student, he actively participated in campaigns to overthrow the colonial systems in Algeria. Later, he received a scholarship to study in France, where he became involved with the Overseas Students Organization, a group that advocates for a better future for Algeria. His dedication and leadership in this organization were recognized by President Houphouet, who granted him Ivorian citizenship and a diplomatic position in the country. Throughout his career, Dr. Berrah has consistently excelled in this field.
In A Dream For Peace: An Ambassador's Memoir, the author presents a compelling and immersive historical non-fiction account that is both educational and easy to understand. The writing style is straightforward, and the storytelling is excellent, making the book a highly engaging read. The author includes a wealth of detail and context, including photographs, which help bring the events of the past to life. Overall, this seventeen-chapter book is a thoroughly enjoyable and informative read that feels fresh and relevant despite its historical subject matter.
I really enjoyed reading this book. It was written extremely well, and the use of photographs throughout the text helped bring the characters and their situations to life in a very realistic way. The vocabulary used in the book was simple and easy to understand, which only added to the quality of the writing. While I would highly recommend this book, I should mention that it is quite lengthy, which may be a consideration for some readers. Overall, I believe this book is the best one out of the others I have read, and I have no complaints about it.
However, the book was professionally edited because I found just three errors. I would rate this book 5 out of 5 stars. This book is well suited for readers who enjoy reading biographies, memoirs, and even autobiographies.
