Review of A Dream For Peace
A Dream for Peace by Ghoulem Berrah is a memoir based on the author's real-life happenings. The author starts his narration with Ghoulem Berrah's upbringing, his childhood to his pursuit of elementary education. It is evident from the story that Dr. Ghoulem was born in an African country Algeria while it was still under French colonists. The book Chronicles the sacrifices and struggles he made for his country Algeria to attain self-independence and peace. Being raised by his mother at Ain Beida who much-adored education, Ghoulem Berrah was well fostered and geared to achieve the best in his academics. After completion of elementary school, he receives a scholarship to join any university of his interest. He chooses to join the university of Bordeaux to pursue medicine. He organizes groups to defend African students' rights. This marks the start of activism. His endeavor of making his country free from colonialism does not wither. He goes the extra mile to advocate peace, unity, and freedom in his country. He is seen embarking on strikes with his fellow mates who had reunited to fight for the independence of Algeria. Besides his role as an activist, he reveals the chronicle of a love story which is fascinating. He explains how he met Antoinette who eventually became his first wife. Just to summarize, much happening of great importance took place in the struggle for independence of Algeria which was later achieved and Ghoulem became a hero. Peace and unity were also reinstated among African countries.
The writing approach employed by the author is appealing. The story is also told from an individual set of opinions and backgrounds. Every aspect of view is entirely interconnected to the whole chronology of events. The sequential overturn of events and the chronological flow of ideas bolsters the story's quality. What I love much about the book is that the author did not hold back on his overall life experiences. His accomplishments, failures, mistakes, challenges faced and his love story are all contained in the story and a more descriptive manner. His descriptions were also accompanied by photographs which made it easier for great understanding the events. His unwithering commitment and determination to attain his goal are also encouraging. I also love the theme of love evident among his friends whom he encountered at the university. The authors writing style is also amazing. I appreciate that the book is easy to read and its flawless plot makes it more interesting.
After much deliberation, I found nothing absurd about the book. The only thing that stood out was the use of more French words which sometimes disrupted my reading. Other than that, the book was more engrossing and educative.
A Dream for Peace is exceptionally well edited and I am glad to award 5 out of 5 . I did not come across any grammatical or typing errors throughout my reading. The book is more interesting and therefore captured my attention.
I would recommend A Dream for Peace to people who love to know more about the history of African countries. The book will also fit those who love politics and activists who have the desire to fight for the freedom of their own countries. The determination, resilience, and commitment depicted by the author will be much more inspiring.
