Why Does Government Need to be Funded? is a nonfiction book by Amphidromus. The book provides a detailed explanation of why the government is funded (by the private sector), why this is a major problem for the general population, and why this situation needs to change for society to solve the two major challenges to civilization: the lack of social (distributive) justice and the lack of economic liberty. To solve the above-mentioned challenges, the author insists that we need to re-examine our present set of reasoning; to change our perception of both money and government. At the core of the political-economic revolution suggested in this book is the adoption of a proper understanding and implementation of the concept of money. According to the author, the existing political model of totalitarianism –this does not mean that the government of the United States of America is a dictatorship, rather, it refers to the centralized control of the means of production by forces of evil and tyranny- and the economic model of capitalism are the major impediments to liberty and justice and, therefore, they need changing.
Amphidromus argues that the government is funded because it (the government) is not the source of money. This hinders the government from fully accomplishing its purpose. The solution to this, he suggests, is 'to unite the concept of money and government’, to make money an inbuilt part/property of the government, that is, to make the government the source of the money. This will, in turn, change the essence of the government from being an authoritarian taker and ruler to a benevolent enabler and mediator. To enable and mediate means to provide and equitably distribute, that is, in essence, to decentralize, the means of production. This, according to Amphidromus, will ultimately result in social justice and individual economic liberty. With the implementation of this particular model, there will be no more national debts, and taxation will cease.
This book was expertly written. For economists and politicians/leaders everywhere, there's no single book that’s more insightful about political-economic issues than this book! What I loved the most about this book is the author’s in-depth explanations. He breaks down complex economic concepts into simpler, easier-to-understand concepts using simple examples. I especially liked the way he explained the cause of
inflation, debunking the misconception that it is the supply of money that causes inflation. The book is educative as well; though it may seem basic, I learned about the origin of the so-much-talked-about left-wing and right-wing sides of the political (and philosophical) divide.
Last but not least, this book is, for the major part, eye-opening and thought-provoking, in a good way. At the end of my reading, I bought the author’s idea/suggestion, and I believe that if his ideals expressed in this book are adopted and properly implemented, then the challenge of distributive justice and economic liberty will be solved.
There's nothing I found negative about this book. The book was professionally edited, as I noticed only a few petty typographical errors. I hereby rate the book 5 out of 5 stars.
First and foremost, I recommend this book to economists and aspiring leaders hoping to change society/world positively. There are also some chunks of history in this book, and therefore the book is also well-suited for fans of historical fiction. Lastly, anyone, that is, any open-minded individual, seeking to understand economics, precisely capitalism, better, would find this book enjoyable. This is an enlightening book!
