Review of A Dream For Peace
A Dream For Peace by Dr. Ghoulem Berrah is the writer's autobiography. The book centers on his life, from birth to childhood, and education. Dr. Berrah was born in Algeria. He describes his struggle for the freedom of Algeria. This leads Dr. Ghoulem Berrah to be sent to prison for that. He later takes off to the United States of America, where he fulfills his ambition as an accomplished scientist. He also became the special advisor of President Houphouet- Boigny of Cote d'Ivoire and joined the service of President Houphouet- Boigny of Cote d'Ivoire. This role helps form the base for his later diplomatic work. A Dream For Peace is an emotional tale of growth, love, friendship, and the fight for universal peace.
There is a tone of humility in work. The author has tremendous feats to his credit, but he still maintains his humility. He recognized the influence of his loved ones around him as a catalyst for his success. For instance, he pens a beautiful tribute to his mother, which reads: "To my beloved mother. You molded me with your love, wrapped me with your prayers, and shaped the man I became."
Some pages of this memoir are adorned with photographs. I think this is one awesome way to write a memoir. I think pictures tell a lot of stories. I saw a photo of the author's father, a photo of the school group, and others as well. Even though one may not fully know the author, asides from stories, images can also connect!
The writer is a promoter of tolerance and peace. Qualities are much needed in today's world especially love. He witnesses the oppression his people of Algeria are subjected to by the colonialists or white men. In our world from time immemorial, no freedom fighter has been loved by the oppressors. The likes of Martin Luther King Junior and Nelson Mandela, for instance, tell a similar story. Dr. Berrah goes to jail for fighting for what he believes in: which is his good dream for his country and the world at large- for freedom and peace.
There are about seventeen chapters in this memoir. Chapter one narrates The Birth to University, while chapter two narrates the Hardship and Prison. Subsequent chapters also have various stories to tell.
The book, I believe, will make a great impact on generations to come. One man can have a positive effect on the world and leave a lasting impression. The memoir is well-edited too. It would make an enjoyable read, especially for historians.
I rate this book five out of five stars. I recommend the book to lovers of history/historians and African students who want to know more about their roots and great African men.
