Review of Seeking... Finding... Healing...
Do you ever find yourself drowning in regretful thoughts of the mistakes you made in the past? Do you sometimes blame yourself for not being your wise self when you should have? Do you experience difficulty in accepting your flaws? Instead of allowing such thoughts to stress you out and making you feel bad about the things that you can’t control, decide today to make peace with your past. “How?” you ask. Seeking… Finding… Healing… by Becky Lu Jackson is a book that seeks to guide you in that process of accepting your past self and carving out a better future.
The author reveals her own personal struggles in various areas of her life and how a method she stumbled upon, helped her overcome those struggles. She introduces us to the concept of inner families. Most of us are familiar with the concept of our “inner child” but the author introduces us to more than one inner child and even, our future selves. This method enabled her to embrace her innocent and inexperienced younger self and establish her true beliefs about life. The method entails various meditation, visualization and writing exercises for one to fully benefit from it. Read this book for firsthand knowledge on how to experience this inner family healing.
This book is insightful and well explained. I like how the author divides the book into four parts, from the foundation work to the deep work. The healing process is well explained such that the reader can carry it out on their own and experience true healing. I appreciated how the author made the book relatable by sharing snippets from her personal journal, her personal stories and also stories of others. These provides inspiration for anyone who may want to give the method of healing a try.
The aim of this book is for the reader to experience self-acceptance and self-improvement. I gained a lot from the advice and exercises provided. I was particularly intrigued by the exercise on coming up with my own version of “Becky says”. Though I was skeptical at first about this method of healing, I intend to read it again and embark on doing the exercises.
I found a few negative aspects in this book. For a self-help book, the book’s structure seemed a bit complicated. Even though the book was divided into parts, I sometimes found myself lost on what the author was talking about. Another negative aspect I noted was the page alignment. The word alignment kept shifting from one page to another. This irritated me a lot and reduced my enjoyment of the book. For this reason, I rate the book 3 out of 5 stars. It did not get a lower rating because I still gained from the book as stated above. The book was well written and professionally edited. I came across very few errors in the book.
I recommend the book to anyone struggling with negative thoughts, regrets, finding life’s purpose, low self-esteem and addiction.
