Review of The Warrior's Meditation
The Warrior's Meditation by Richard L. Haight is divided into four parts and has 23 chapters. The author has been a dedicated meditator for more than 30 years.
The book begins with the author explaining the terms "Vipassana" and "Samatha," which Buddhists claim are the origins of all forms of meditation. Vipassana can mean insight as well as awareness, and Samatha can mean purification as well as concentration. The author started meditating as a teen, and through his experience, he explained that there's a certain breakthrough people get to experience in meditation, and it has to go by a particular method. From this, the author seems to have a path of meditation that can blend seamlessly with an active life that he shared explicitly with readers in this book. Would you like to know more about this method of meditation? Read this book to find out.
Right from the preface, I couldn't wait to read the whole book because I just knew I was reading the right book. I don't know much about meditation, but the way the author described how beneficial it would be to one's life if one practiced the meditations in the book piqued my interest. I looked forward to embodying meditation and doing other activities while meditating. I also came to know that the brain generates alpha waves during calm meditation and that there are different approaches to meditation.
I like how the author explained concentration in meditation because almost all meditation has to do with concentration, and I like how he explained the meditation practices and the mistakes we might make. For example, the author explained that overthinking about whether we're actually meditating the right way won't help our meditative process.
This book is not just about meditation; it covers a wide range of knowledge. As a student, I learned about the vagus nerve, which is part of the 12 cranial nerves, in school, but I never knew it was inspired by the word "vagabond." I love that he included links to videos on the meditation practices to aid proper visualizing, and he also stated precautions for meditation, including the right postures, and he taught The Warriors' Meditation in very simple terms.
There's absolutely nothing I dislike about this book. I learned many lessons from this book, ranging from learning meditation in depth to challenging my assumptions. I also learned that meditation has many benefits. Many people think it's not possible to achieve meditation on a busy day, but the author gave methods by which it is attainable and how to blend meditation seamlessly with our daily lives. Because of this, I rate this book five out of five stars. It is exceptionally well edited, and I found no errors while reading it.
I recommend it to anyone who seeks awareness through meditation and to anyone who is willing to learn more about meditation and how it benefits our health.
