Individual Influence: Find the "I" in Team is written by two authors named Brian Smith, Ph. D, and Mary Griffin. These writers discuss the many challenges we as humans face and offer answers to existential questions about ourselves. To provide insight to the readers of this book, the authors showcase their individual struggles as an example of each statement they are trying to make. Humor is used throughout the book, and one particularly interesting instance is when one of the authors talks about a term they coined the peanut butter syndrome. This wacky analogy helps the reader identify with the feeling of being distracted.

The book is packed with down-to-earth insight that I believe applies to daily life. Most of the concepts were easy to understand and relate to. The stories that supplemented the advice were entertaining and kept my interest. The experiences the authors shared were ones that we can all connect with. At the end of each section, there was a list of key points, and I found that to be a useful tool. Providing a point of reference for readers is a great way to keep their attention. Self-help books tend to follow a specific recipe, but this one was unique and catered to the reader. This makes the book stand out among many other non-fiction books.

There are a few things that this book could improve upon. At the beginning of the book, the information is a bit confusing. The authors tried to describe certain terms but it was not clear. Although the concepts were informative they were unimaginative in some respects despite the well-written examples. Many of the topics they discussed were common knowledge. There were also some sections where more advice was needed or where there was incomplete information.

The book was obviously well written and edited because I did not find grammatical errors. I enjoyed the book because of the author's attention to detail and how they reached out to the reader. I feel that the shortcomings are minimal therefore I rate this book 4 out of 5 stars.

I suggest this book to those who like to read self-help books but are looking for something a little different. This book would be great for someone who is trying to find the answers to life's big questions. For those who are trying to make constructive changes in their lives, this novel would be a great tool.
