In life, there are some things over which we have no control. We can't plan our lives and be confident that everything will go just as we have planned. However, Lili-Ann Kriegler stresses in her book that just because life can be unpredictable and complicated at times, that doesn't mean that we can't do what we can to create our ideal type of family. She maintains that raising successful kids is not something that happens by chance but rather through a number of deliberate strategies and concrete actions taken by the parent.

In Roots and Wings by Lili-Ann Kriegler, the author breaks down the various approaches and strategies parents may employ to assist their kids in reaching their full potential and being the best they can be. She provides various insights and critical details about the growing child at different ages and stages of development, as well as informs the parent on the best ways to care for and nurture the child from infancy to adolescence and eventually into adulthood. She emphasizes how effective parental communication may help children achieve optimal development and success, hence strengthening family relationships and bonding. She continues by discussing the impact of communication on the family, drawing attention to the connection between education and communication and asserting that effective communication is impossible without a solid education.

The layout of this book was excellent. The book was divided into two main parts, each of which contained systematically organized chapters. The first section of the book was primarily concerned with the practical dimensions of education, communication, and the foundations of language acquisition. The second section focused on more philosophical facets of fostering resilience and unity within the family. In this same part, Lili-Ann also addressed some issues facing young people in society today and how to tackle them.

I genuinely loved the book's liberal use of quotes, poems, and references from prominent authors, psychologists, and philosophers. This helped to support the central premise of the book. Additionally, the reading flow was improved with a quick summary at the end of each chapter.

There was nothing about this book that I disliked. The author demonstrated professional and expert knowledge of the topic she writes about in this well-researched piece. I found it quite endearing to read about the author's own experiences and the lessons she learned from them. Of course, she didn't fail to throw in a few humorous comments here and there.

I only came across a few errors in this book, which indicates that it was carefully edited. With all that has been said so far, I give Roots and Wings a rating of four out of four stars. I recommend this book to parents, caregivers, or anyone with the responsibility of taking care of a child.

In my opinion, this book isn't all about the upbringing of a child, it is also about committing ourselves to achieve our dreams no matter the unpredictable that life brings to us.
