Angel Guides is a warm and loving non-fiction book which instructs you on how to get in touch with your angel guides. The book offers advice on how to love yourself, handle difficult life challenges and get in touch with your higher self. I rate this book 3 out of 4 stars.

The book opens with a brief introduction by the author which explains the concept of angel guides as loving spiritual beings who are available to call on at any time and who surround you with loving intent. Some possible identities of guides are a loved one who has passed on, an animal or even a saint. The author shares some of her personal perspective regarding angel guides, emphasizes the book’s overarching themes that spirituality is highly unique to each individual and loving oneself opens the door to achieving a higher state of being.

The beginning chapters of the book read like a loving lecture. The emphasis here is on introducing you to your potential, explaining how you have the right to be happy and how by your actions you can tend to your happiness. The very first chapter also sets expectations stating up front that you must be ready for changes in your life as you begin the journey of opening yourself to your guides and communing with them regularly. This book does not promise hardship will be nonexistent as you begin your personal spiritual journey, instead it encourages you to face hardship from a different and higher perspective. As you continue reading you will see the theme that loving yourself can open you to a better life and help improve your quality of life repeated multiple times. There are many thought provoking quotes from various sources included as well as practical exercises to help you get in touch with your personal guides.

One of the most interesting things about this book to me personally, were the visualization and writing exercises suggested. For example the author suggests visualizing cleansing yourself of negative emotions and energies in order to prepare for a new relationship. There is also a lot of emphasis on understanding and focussing on how you feel in different situations and around different people. The lesson here is to be mindful of your state of being, so you can track when you feel closest to your ideal state of being and when life is dragging you down into a less ideal state of being. I enjoyed the way the author wove in ideas from quantum physics into the book as well. Throughout the entire book the author openly states that you can call the higher powers and universal laws God, Quantum physics the name doesn’t matter. The important thing is that you understand we are all linked and you can have a meaningful and positive effect on the world around you.

I rated this book 3 out of 4 stars because while I believe it is a worthwhile read for anyone looking to start a spiritual journey, I also found some of the sentences downright confusing. I found myself rereading certain sentences and paragraphs in the book multiple times in an effort make the words make sense. That being said, I still feel that this book will appeal to open minded people who are looking for a way to continue or begin their own personal spiritual journey. However, if the mere idea of angels, a traditional godly higher power or beings from a different dimension is something you scoff at then you will not be interested in this book.
