Peace! Is it possible to achieve peace in this dangerous world? It isn't easy to be a diplomat. It takes strength, intelligence, smartness, and brilliance to be one. That was the life of the author, Dr. Ghoulem Berrah, in his book, A Dream for Peace. He was an Algerian diplomat who served his country. He had accomplished a lot of missions by being a good messenger and diffusing volatile situations. What was his work like?

There was this summit that every president of a third-world country must attend. But President Houphouët did not attend this summit because he didn't trust their decisions. But in 1973, he attended because his friend, President Boumédiène, invited him. One of the presidents, the president of Cuba, President Fidel Castro, did not like the Algerian president. So in his speech, he included insults directed at him. When President Boumédiène saw this speech, he tried to prevent trouble by asking President Castro to change it, but he refused. How was this situation going to be resolved to avoid trouble? What was Ghoulem's role in solving this issue?

Ghoulem led an intriguing life. The book started with his family background. His mother was the pillar that supported his education in his younger days. Then he went abroad to further his studies. There were also his experiences as a young man. His love life was very interesting to read about. I appreciated how his relationship with Tina finally ended. Ghoulem had endearing attributes. He sought peace all his life, and he maintained the ones he achieved. One such time was in his marriage. He was a devout Muslim who married a devout Catholic. Yet he and his wife got along so well and never had problems because of their religious differences. This has a lot to teach people.

There were a few things I disliked in this book. The book was too lengthy. I got bored by some of its content because I felt they were not relevant. Apart from these, the book contained a lot of information, mostly about Africa. It was educational to read about the several dignitaries the author met. One of them was President Gaddafi. I got a glimpse of the political system of Africa. I enjoyed reading about the author's diplomatic work. It made me appreciate ambassadors more and what they do for their countries.

I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. I found no errors. It was exceptionally well-edited. The book was very lengthy, but it contained enough useful information for readers interested in politics and history. Though I found some of its content irrelevant, they were few and didn't affect my enjoyment of the book. The length of the book might discourage some readers, but the title will attract more. I recommend this book to people who like to read about significant men, African history, and African politics.

I don’t believe that absolute peace is achievable but I do believe that being a diplomat is certainly not as easy as people make it seem. Would be interesting to see what this one holds for the readers but I already have a line of books to read.

Dr. Ghoulem is a hero who goes unnoticed. This book discusses how dialogue has been used to achieve peace in many countries over the centuries and why it is the most effective method. As an example, consider the author. Keep it up with this amazing review.

When i first came across this book I almost skipped it due to its voluminous nature. But when I started I don't even know how I got to the last page due to how engrossing and absorbing the read was. Thanks for the review.

Peace?? It's very impossible but also very possible to achieve peace in this world if everyone will simply do the right thing. I will like to read and learn how Berrah was able to live peacefully with his wife though.

Very interesting review.

Peace is a delicate and scarce commodity in this our world. But I like the way Dr. Ghoulem lived his diplomatic life.
