There is only one word to adequately describe the book A Dream for Peace by Dr. Ghoulem Berrah, and that is astounding. It is a beautifully compiled memoir based on all his remarkable accomplishments throughout his life. He was born in Aïn Beïda, a small town in Algeria. His father died when he was just five years old, and his mother made it her duty to diligently see that he was well educated. His brother from his father’s previous marriage stepped in as head of the household. The French governed his country at that time, which caused a bias in the education system.

He completed his high school education as a prominent student and received a scholarship, which he used to further his medical degree in France. That's when he started his revolutionary work. He, along with other Muslim brothers, conducted meetings in revolt against the French and was further arrested. He later met his first wife, who was also a freedom fighter. While studying abroad, his beloved mother died, refocusing him back on his medical career. He, however, still found the time to fight fiercely for freedom in his country. He next moved to America and taught as a professor, where he got a calling to go to Africa. Due to the strenuous work he was involved in, his love life paid the price, ending in a divorce. In Africa, he met the love of his life, Titi, and made many social connections with presidents and world leaders. He became a decorated activist, making a difference both there and later in Algeria.

There are so many positive aspects to this book, but I will only mention a few. The author possessed an impressive memory in recollecting all the events of his life in spectacular detail. The descriptions narrated in the memoir were excellently described with considerable use of smilies. The author was able to recount his adventures perfectly, and I was able to visualize each event as if I was there. Dr. Berrah found a way to convey profound peace among countrymen so easily that it was inspiring to read about his fascinating life story. He witnessed the leadership of many dedicated and commendable people that I hold in high esteem, to name a few: Haile Selassie, former Emperor of Ethiopia; and Barack Obama, who served as the 44th President of the United States.

The prolific author was a remarkable man who placed a distinctive stamp on history and should be someone people should aspire to become. His book was truly motivational, and I loved the inspirational words he mentioned. I learned that with the proper people by your side, the right frame of mind, and drive, anyone can make a difference in bringing about world peace. Many world leaders can learn from him. He altered my views on how I saw a terrorist. To the country under attack, they will be seen as terrorists, but they are really just freedom fighters willing to fight for a cause for their people and country.

There was nothing negative I encountered about the book. Some readers might typically find six hundred and forty-four pages to be too much to read. However, the author’s life story was poured out in the book, and there should not be a limit to how many pages are written about him due to his extraordinary stamp impression on history.

I would give A Dream for Peace an excellent rating of four out of four stars for his exceptional diligence in relating his life story as his parting gift to this world. While eagerly reading, I only encountered a few minor errors, showing it was professionally well-edited. I would heartily recommend this influential book to anyone who genuinely loves to read historical memoirs. In my opinion, anyone of reading age should read this book so they can be motivated to make a difference in this world and bring about peace.
