Review of A Dream For Peace
This book, A Dream For Peace, by Dr. Ghoulem Berrah, is highly inspiring. The book gives us a detailed account of the author's journey to bring change to not just his country but far beyond. It has never been easy to bring change into a society or a community, let alone to one's country at large. There have been stories of great and influential citizens of a society or nation who have tried to change some aspects of their environmental policies but failed in the attempt. I find this book exceptionally inspiring as the protagonist later succeeds in his journey to bring change to his society, and the change affects his country positively too.
The author of this great memoir, Dr. Ghoulem Berrah, is from a polygamous family in a small city in Algeria. His mom was very strict and her prime interest was in her son's quality education. Their town faced a lot of security challenges as they were a French colony, making it compulsory to study the French language in their school curriculum. The awarding of a scholarship to an outstanding student to study at any university of their choice during the graduation ceremony was unjust, resulting in an anti-colonial protest at the school. Although the author was later awarded a scholarship to study at any university of his choice, that didn't end the fight, as the author was later arrested. One can understand the pain of studying a foreign language and culture in one's academic curriculum and getting unfair treatment from the school administration who happen to be from the foreign side. What later became of Dr. Ghoulem Berrah, you will know when you read this book.
I loved this book as it was well-edited and was written in a simple and understandable language. The role of the author in the decolonization process of his country was highly motivational. He was later successful, and he met with some influential world leaders. I was fascinated by the role he played just for the sake of peace in his society. The fact that he didn't only fight for peace and freedom, but was also a good friend, son ,and father. He made us understand that leaving one's society or nation at a time of need is not the ultimate solution to the problem of the society or country.
I disliked the book because it had a lot of abbreviations, which slowed down my reading pace and made the book tiring to read. I had to browse the meaning of some complex abbreviations to understand their meaning. But regardless, I enjoyed reading the book.
I would like to give this book 4 out of 4 stars as the issue with the abbreviation, I believe, was the writer's style of writing and this wasn't enough to deduct a star. I found no errors in my reading. Although it had slight erotic content, the book was well-edited.
I recommend this book to historians, freedom fighters, and political leaders as this would be a guide to forster or restore peace in their society or nation.
