Compelling amounts of research have revealed that we all go through at least one traumatic experience in our lives. This means we are all healing from something, which creates a need for information on how to go about the process.

Seeking... Finding...Healing...The Complete Guide to Self-Directed Inner Family Healing by Becky Lu Jackson, is a well-written guide to finding healing from childhood or adulthood traumatic experiences. Becky Lu Jackson, a drug, alcohol, and food addiction survivor, now a food addiction and diet consultant, writes about how she healed from her experiences. Through this book, she practically guides the reader through the process, using guided meditation or visualization and testimonies from those who have applied her teachings.

What I enjoyed most about this book was reading the author’s visualizations, which she includes in every chapter. This made me feel like I was in her mind and her emotions, which prompted a feeling of empathy and intimacy. It showed me how vulnerable and honest she is in her writing and gave me strength in approaching my feelings. Because of this, I now have an idea of how I should talk to my inner self about my trauma. The inclusion of other people’s healing experiences in chapter 6 was a nice touch. It made me feel as if I was in a support group. The book’s easy language and short length make the reading process less mentally demanding, which, overall, makes the book a pleasant read.

The book is well edited and thoroughly proofread, as I found no spelling or grammatical errors. In the book, Becky talks about the importance of spirituality, and I love how she is aware that spirituality is subjective. She does not impose any religion in any way but encourages the reader to make use of whatever spiritual idea they subscribe to. I found that to be very thoughtful, making the book neutral on that religious aspect.

Because of how honest and practical the author is, I rate the book 3 out of 4. Most books I have read about healing are either guides based on psychological theory or just records of personal experience. In this book, Becky manages to find a way to transform her personal experience and that of others to create a neutral and functional healing guide for all types of trauma. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is seeking healing from a traumatic experience or knows somebody who does.
