A Dream for Peace by Dr. Ghoulem Berrah is an informative book that explains striving toward peace. Berrah, a political reformer, had been born and raised in Algeria by a single mother. He faced racism and discrimination in his local school. Berrah later acquired a scholarship to study medicine in France, where he still braved racism. He reacted to it and formed an organization to fight against discrimination against Africans. His journey towards acquiring peace encountered many bumps and twists. He details his struggles both as a freedom fighter and a political activist.
Berrah was a reformist medical student in France. He would be chased by the police and thus fled the country through immense measures. Despite that, he was arrested and imprisoned in Spain. He represented the Algerian Liberation Front in China, where he met Mao Zedong. His research at Indiana University in New York, where he also had a scholarship, impacted the world of biological science. That is where he was named Dr. Ghoulem Berrah. While pursuing his studies in the science field, he was also involved in the movements for liberation against colonization. He shares his struggles as a participant in the battles of Africa, Asia, and the Middle East. He led medical research, visited religious sites, and served as an ambassador for peace negotiations between Israel and Palestine. He was a visionary with great hope for future generations. What was also astonishing was that his wife joined and fought alongside him despite their racial differences.
What I loved about the book was Berrah's detailed account of what took place. The book was well-planned as it gave glimpses of what happened in the post-colonial period. Berrah's patriotic nature was admirable, not forgetting his spirit to fight and not give up even when it got all tough. His strength to endure all the suffering is inspiring and admirable. The book also detailed accounts of his adventures, friendships, struggles, and love stories. The induction of his original photos was also a significant input in the book as it allowed readers to put a face to the name Berrah. The personalities he mentioned in the book added to the story's veracity.
I disliked nothing about the book. A Dream for Peace is an enlightening novel that displays the hardships and injustices of this world. Berrah challenged the system and never faltered in his work to achieve peace and unity.
A Dream for Peace was edited professionally and had a great flow. I found no errors in the book. I rate the book 4 out of 4 stars. The vivid description of events makes you feel included in the story, making it even more intriguing. The book inspires and gives an insight into the fight for a nation for independence.
I recommend the book to anyone interested in fighting for a good cause. It is a good incentive for lovers of peace and unity. It is also a commendable book for those interested in historical facts.
