Review of A Dream For Peace
Having something that you believe in can aid you in reaching your objectives and giving your life meaning. Doing something you believe in will also enable you to stick to it even though it may feel like you are doing it alone and that others are not rooting for you. Finally, becoming knowledgeable about other people's religions can help you better understand them and prevent you from relying solely on your own religion and rejecting the need to comprehend those of others. Additionally, understanding other faiths can help you understand how each one views the world, and in that case, you may assess and consider how this influences other individuals, including yourself. These are the things I discovered while reading Dr. Ghoulem Berrah's book called A Dream for Peace.
In the prologue of this incredible work, the author gives us a little introduction of himself. We learn that the author is Muslim and that he was born and reared in Algeria, which at the time was colonized by France. This indicates that they have to study everything in French alone, not in any other language. Even though that was the situation, he made the decision to do well in school and ultimately earned his degree in France despite having numerous difficulties along the way. Following that, he entered politics and travelled to numerous nations, notably those in Africa, where he continued his quest to bring peace to persecuted nations.
I greatly appreciated the author's fight for other people's tranquility. I could also identify with his perspective of living in a colonial nation because I also reside in a former colony. This helped me realize that the author was a genuine hero who overcame obstacles to pursue his objectives. I had some understanding of politics before reading this book, but after reading it, I learnt a lot about it and even had a fresh viewpoint on it, thus this book was really instructive for me. I particularly appreciated the fact that the author not only succeeded in politics but also in academics and life in general. This is demonstrated by the fact that he was the first to formulate a hypothesis on Reverse Transcriptase Enzyme.
The author also provides us a glimpse into many religions in his work and even links a few of them. This is demonstrated by demonstrating the similarity between the willingness to sacrifice in the Christian and Islamic religions. He presented every religion in a way that any reader would comprehend, which let me fully understand something that was quite foreign to me. Additionally, he demonstrated his tolerance for various religions and lack of prejudice. This is demonstrated by the fact that he married a Christian who attends a Roman Catholic church while being a Muslim. This demonstrates that he was willing to love and respect the woman he loved regardless of her religious background since he thought that even if they followed different religions, they all served the same God.
Even though the author included photos in his book, which is admirable since we could see something that was visual, the photographs were of poor quality, which means that they were not clear, but I understood because they were old pictures, so this was one aspect of the book that I did not enjoy. Other than that, there was nothing about the book that I didn't appreciate. I particularly like how the author clarified concepts that some of us readers were not familiar with. Additionally, this book was well-organized and free of grammar mistakes, which shows that it was exceptionally edited. I'd like to award this book a rating of 4 out of 4 stars as a result.
I recommend this book to those who enjoy memoirs and who want to learn more about various political and religious ideologies. This book can also be read by those who desire to constantly work toward social harmony. I also recommend it to those who are lacking motivation in their life because, after reading this book, they will feel motivated and realize that they, too, can succeed in their endeavors, just like the author did.
