‘Surviving the Business of Healthcare’ by Barbra Galutia Regis, M.S., PA-C is about the way medicine and pharmacy has changed in the United States of America in the last few decades. Barbra herself is a PA and has years of experience which has enabled her to write such a enlightening book. She has full knowledge of the way medicine was practiced by both the doctors of the past as well as the present.

This book has been very well structured and the chapter breaks are implemented where I feel they are necessary. While the chapters of this book are relatively short compared to other books of this nature it gives the reader the chance to read and fully digest the information in each section without becoming overwhelmed. As well as this the personal anecdotes from her childhood give a very personal feel to the book. The fact that certain sections are split into ‘problem’ and ‘solution’ sections means that the reader is able to fully understand each hypothetical situation Barbra is illustrating.

Personally I feel that some parts of this book are slightly repetitive particularly throughout later chapters when each is signed off with ‘Best of Health!’. While this may be repetitive to me I can see how this may be seen as a positive by some. Also as someone from the Uk the way healthcare is talked about like a business is also quite jarring to me. However, overall this book is a cohesive and concise explanation of the issues within the American health service and utilities statistics for ‘shock value’ very well.

Grammar and spelling wise this book is exceptional. I was unable to detect any grammar or spelling errors other than the discrepancies between Uk English and US English. I would recommend this book to people who have an interest in healthcare as well as those who want to understand why America has such an opioid and healthcare crisis currently.

I would rate this book a solid 4 stars out of 4.
