The nonfiction book, Surviving the Business of Healthcare, was written by Barbara Galutia Regis, PA-C. The author is an actual caregiver who favors giving care that is based on relationships. She provides careful and diligent guidance as one negotiates the complexities of non-eccentric medical model treatment. Her family history and early memories of her father practicing medicine were interwoven, which improved the account of her career enthusiasm.

This masterpiece detailed how to navigate the world of health insurance plans, compare medication prices, create living wills, choose a primary care physician, and more. The author tackled subjects like Obama Care and the Opioid Epidemic, describing them in a way that is simple to understand and providing readers with the quick data they needed to know to take control of their health. Her unique experiences in the rapidly evolving healthcare industry are incorporated throughout the chapters, beginning with her grade-school years in Pennsylvania in the 1970s, when she lived in the same house as her father, who headed the family business. The author is a fourth-generation family practice physician who also has cancer, so she understands how it feels to be on both the patient and provider ends of the treatment team. She was, therefore, more predisposed to providing vital information to readers on how to take charge of their health.

Despite not being a fan of hospitals or healthcare in general, I thought this book was quite insightful and worthwhile. It was fascinating to learn that doctors continuously have their patients' best interests in mind. I'm happy that the book is an easy read for anyone with residual concerns about the modern and changing realm of healthcare. The memoir sections were interesting to me since they kept the book from being entirely academic. Additionally, the details made me able to connect with her personality and gave it a more authentic feel. Because the author is a fourth-generation practicing provider, I was able to picture what it would be like to have three generations go before me in my chosen field. It would be a wonderful feeling.

There was nothing in the book that disturbed me. Its information-dense text was well-written and incredibly perceptive. Its perfect editing is demonstrated by the fact that I found no mistakes. I will be awarding the book an excellent rating of four out of four stars because it changed my outlook on mental and physical wellness.

Readers who are interested in learning more about healthcare and how to maximize it, as well as healthcare professionals, should read Surviving the Business of Healthcare.

I don’t like dealing with the healthcare system either, but I was forced to due to an illness affecting the nervous system. It’s difficult to navigate and this book sounds like it could help.
