Review of A Dream For Peace
A Dream For Peace is a memoir about Dr. Ghoulem Berrah. He was born in Algeria during the French colonial times. Berrah witnessed the brutality of the French colonial masters, saw how his people suffered, and he was determined to make things better. At a young age, Berrah was already thinking about how to help his country gain independence and fight racism. He grew up with his mother, and he received special treatment for being the only son. He went to the best schools while growing up, and he was lucky to get a scholarship to study at a university in Bordeaux. He once made an amazing discovery in science, which made him popular. The book covered his life experiences from childhood to adulthood. I learned a lot of lessons from his life, such as determination, sacrifice, love, and tolerance.
Dr. Ghoulem Berrah is a selfless, courageous, and good-natured person. He always had the well-being of his homeland in mind. His role in Algeria's getting independence was commendable. He is an intelligent person, educationally and emotionally. He had the qualities of a leader and proved to be a good one. He always stood for what he believed in and didn't allow criticism from anyone to affect him. Berrah was an advocate for peace, freedom, and love. His role as a special aide to President Felix Houphouet of Cote d'Ivoire allowed him to promote peace and seek the development of Africa. He is indeed a great man with lots of accomplishments in science and politics. Everything about the book was inspiring. My favorite parts were how he met his wife, his sacrifices for love, and how he fought for what he wanted. The pictures sprinkled all through the book made the book more enjoyable for me.
The book is a bit lengthy. It has over 600 pages, which might not appeal to some people. I found some parts of the book boring, especially when they went on and on about politics and diplomatic matters.
The book was professionally edited. I spotted just one typo while reading the book. I commend the author's storytelling skills and his ability to express his thoughts in simple words. I realized there was so much more to learn about Dr. Ghoulem that even a book couldn't cover it all. I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. It was a fantastic memoir!
I recommend A Dream For Peace by Dr. Ghoulem Berrah to people who love to read autobiographies or memoirs. You will find this book worthy of your time and money.
