Theresa Gomez provides 90 Day Journey-God is after Your Heart as a day-to-day devotional journal, a workbook of sorts, to help readers embrace what she calls "An Abundant Life." This book is a product of Gomez’s own journey, and she provides personal testimony of the struggles and hardships she has encountered. She discusses the processes of physically de-cluttering the home and emotionally de-cluttering the heart. She moves on to examine the transformative power of prayer. Finally, Gomez specifically recounts two examples of biblical journeys on which we can base our own spiritual transformations: the journey of the children of Israel when they came out of the land of Egypt and the project of Nehemiah to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem. In the first example, Gomez exclaims that we must all be prepared for the journey on God’s terms, be ready for "Red Sea experiences," and be willing to take possession of the life God has promised for us. In the section on Nehemiah, she highlights his "courage, wisdom, and an invincible determination to complete the task for which God had called him." The book ends with a note on how to sustain the progress we’ve made in completing our journey to an abundant life.

I really like that this is a purpose-based workbook meant to engage the reader with scripture and personal reflection. Each section includes activities, either as focus exercises or summary checklists. Some sections are very well organized, making Gomez’s thought process easy to follow. For example, her presentation on de-cluttering was great because it was organized around her own ideas with appropriate bible verses and times for self-reflection interspersed. Also, I applaud the passion with which Gomez presents her ideas. It is very clear that she has lived through this process herself and wants to share her experience in a sincere effort to help others.

However, there are some negatives here. There are some very obvious editing errors that detract from the message. Gomez includes pertinent scriptural quotes, but some are not punctuated correctly (or not punctuated at all), so they lose their power because of the need to decipher exactly what is being said. Also, the religious nature of this book is obvious from the title, but nowhere in the description does it mention that it’s Bible-based. The back cover has a quote from Ezekiel, and the title page states, "Scripture quotations are taken from the N.I.V., K.J.V, and N.A.S.B." (which are versions of the Bible). But anyone buying this book online would have no idea that this journal is based solely on biblical beliefs, leaving non-believers with nothing useful. Finally, there are work sections that ask readers to fill in blanks from specific Bible verses without noting which version the verses come from, so readers might have to research many versions before finding the exact quotations Gomez is referencing.

I rate this book 2 out of 4 stars. While I liked the hands-on style of the book and Gomez’s sincerity, the grammatical errors and lack of transparency in its reliance on biblical teachings really detract from its overall effectiveness.

This book is specifically meant for those who believe in the teachings of the Bible. It is very self-explanatory, making it appropriate for both adults and kids to use as a workbook to improve their lives.

You've written a concise review. Do you think it'd be helpful and practical if it was not too scripturally influenced?

I like the title of this book. Yes, God is after our hearts. Sometimes our heart is pure than our mind. For me, I have a sinful mind than a sinful heart.
