The book Nice People Finish First, by Paul Wright reveals everything readers need to know about H.A.L.F.: A principle that can assist you in finding inner peace, discovering what matters most, and fighting the demons that bring you down in life. By the end of this book, you'll understand how to implement H.A.L.F. in every aspect of your life, not only to benefit yourself, but to help others who like you strive for a meaningful life.

The author begins the book with a disclaimer that this piece has many of the life stories that brought him to this H.A.L.F. principle, hoping this book reaches an audience that struggles through loss, addiction, and confusion about what is a person's purpose in life. Paul Wright heavily focuses on mental health and how religion and belief in God and God's love assisted him though all the difficult times and how H.A.L.F. principle was part of it. Explaining and unravelling the principle through showing the examples from his life, personal practice as a counsellor and life stories that he has gathered throughout his 77 years of life.

What I liked about the book is the easy language the author used that everyone would understand, regardless of their English proficiency. The terminology being used is also explained in the most straightforward manner, allowing people without any background knowledge in psychology, philosophy or religion to understand the idea. Additionally, this book is helpful for religious people who believe in God and Gods love as this book heavily focuses on spirituality and religion.

However, on a negative note, this book is more of an author's life story and lessons he has learned through his career struggles, addiction, divorces, losing loved ones and finding God in everything he does. It does not have as much psychology as the beginning of the book suggests, and it does not warn about the religious side of the book. If you are not someone who is spiritual or believes in God, this book might not bring as much value as you would expect.

My rating for this book is 2 out of 4 stars. One star I am deducting for all the editing problems I encountered throughout the text and the second deduction is for not mentioning that this book is more related to spirituality and religion, with small addition of psychology-pertaining concepts.
