Review of Shamanomics
Most scholars and economists have always taught and embraced economic theories and hypotheses. But the world has experienced the worst and most harsh economic crisis, the recent being the post-Covid-19 economic recession. But one wonders if the economic attributes of an individual country were highly predictable based on management instigated by macroeconomists. Why do many nations still suffer economic woes and instability? A new train of thoughts is established in the pages of Shamanomics.
Shamanomics is an educative guide and critique solely focused on macroeconomists — economic experts who deal with growth, employment, and inflation — and their failed theories or prediction of the world economic crisis. It emphasizes the poor and false economic management brought about by the so-called macroeconomists.
Macroeconomics deals with the significant factors of a nation's economy. It deals with growth, employment, inflation, investment, consumption, etc., and how these factors interact.
I could feel Giles Conway-Gordon dissecting the macroeconomists' theories on economic management. These theories were discussed on a global scale and questioned by the author. The author, explaining the financial market at a fundamental level and the influences brought about by the macroeconomists, made it thought-provoking. I felt the author aimed to provide a critique of the macroeconomists' methods and ways of reasoning. However, he presented many as written thoughts, which implied that most assertions were mainly his opinions.
The author's writing style was simple, and the grammar was basic for an average reader. The writing style was not entirely narrative but often explanatory, making my reading of this book a bit easier. However, I had to do some little extra research on some technical terms that I could not fully grasp in the context used. This aspect made this book challenging, as some technical terms were not thoroughly expatiated.
I consider this piece very educational. Aspiring economists or readers seemingly interested in that area of expertise will be vastly intrigued by this book. The author takes the reader into a different world of economics and mentions notable people who have influenced various concepts cited in this book. However, it lacks a descriptive narration, making it sound dull. Well, the author achieves this book's aim, as the historical accuracy is commendable.
The editing was exceptionally done, as I encountered no errors during my course of reading. The negative aspects were not enough to penalize the book. Therefore, I'd rate Shamanomics 4 out of 4 stars. I'd recommend it to readers fascinated with economics. It is also an educative piece for readers aspiring to pursue a career path in economics.
