Review of The MECE Muse
As someone who knew little to nothing about consultancy, I expected The MECE Muse to be another book too technical for me to comprehend or complete. However, this mindset took a U-turn by the time I had finished reading the introductory chapter. At that moment, I knew I had come across the book that would usher me into the world of consultancy.
Based on her long experience, Christie Lindor writes about different aspects of consultancy in The MECE Muse. The author created the book as a guide to budding consultants on the basics of the profession to help them become great consultants. The book's title is a reference to a core principle in consultancy. MECE is an acronym for Mutually Exclusive, Collectively Exhaustive. Many consultants use this principle to manage situations.
The book begins with an analysis of the ideal mindset of a great consultant. This section comprises various chapters that collectively identify the best behavioral disposition of a consultant. These chapters also discuss manners of approach, dedicated mindsets, and recognition of personal achievements.
The second section moves from the mental aspect of being a professional consultant to the right actions that make a great consultant. The final set of chapters in the book consists of interviews with established professionals. These interviews allow the readers to learn from the stories and experiences of great consultants.
I love The MECE Muse for its diverse coverage of issues related to the consultancy profession. These issues include client interactions, colleague relationships, networking, and negotiation. To further her analysis of these matters, Lindor includes interactions with other great consultants in the book. These interactions provide the readers with knowledge from both the author's and her colleagues' experiences. I commend her efforts in creating such an encompassing book.
Another reason I like this book very much is the availability of knowledge that is as useful in consultancy as in other professions. For instance, the book discusses how people can successfully relate to their clients. Client relationship skills are not limited to the consultancy profession. Other chapters explain how individuals can improve their success rate by attaining set heights. Since I finished the book, I have applied the MECE principle in some issues of personal concern. Such is the diverse utility of knowledge gained from this book.
I could barely think of anything negative to say about The MECE Muse. I only found one vulgar word in the entire book, which I think is surprising based on its occasionally informal nature. Apart from that, nothing in the book earns my negative criticism.
Therefore, I rate the book 4 out of 4 stars due to its diverse and accurate coverage of elements of consultancy and the author's engaging writing skills. I also commend the book for its exceptional editing. I recommend The MECE Muse for readers interested in the consultancy profession. This set of readers includes those with little or no knowledge of consultancy and new consultants who want to learn how to become the best.
